Deutches Museum
Munich's try at the Smithsonian....but it fails On Sunday, September 16 we as a group went to Munich with the purpose of seeing the Deutsches Museum, which is described as Germany's version of the Smithsonian. It is not nearly as interesting. It was fun to go, but I didn't love it or anything. I suppose it is my fault, most of the exhibits are only in German and I cannot read them.
What was interesting is how old some of the things were. Also, 3 of us went to a High Voltage show, which was bright and really loud. Since only one of my friends can speak German, he helped us out a little. We knew to cover our ears by watching the Germans. My favorite part of the museum was the hologram display in Optics. There were some very cool things there. Plus, there was a little display of Swarovski crystal- always exciting!
After we toured the Museum, we went to the Haufbrau house, the most famous beer hall. It was really fun. It was very large and open, and they had a lot of traditional German dress and music. We sat at long tables and drank the "original" liter beers. They were expensive-
Swarovski crystal!
A Swarovski display in the museum at 6 Euro, but when you are in Munich, you must visit the Haufbrau house. I have been very wary of saur kraut, so I played safe and went with the fried pollack fish. It was delicious. I love fish! We hit up the gift shop and continued onward.
The majority of the group headed back to Ingolstadt, but 5 of us wanted to stay longer and check more of Munich out. This was a really good thing for me to do, mostly because it was much easier to travel around with 5 people instead of 19.
We wanted to find a map of Munich so we could find our way around, but since it was Sunday, most of the places we could get a map were closed. On Sunday, basically everything is closed, but since we were in such a large city, there were a few things open. But we still were unable to get a map.
So we walked around for a little while, and came upon a church. We went inside and took a few photos. Again, since we had no map and no guide, I am unsure what the church is even named.
Haufbrau house
The most famous beer house in the world....liter beers As we walked around more near the city center, we found a large fountain with a large city building behind it. The building may be a parliament building. I posted a photo that I took of the boys in front of it. I personally think it is a great photo.
Josh (a guy that was with us) had heard of a river in Munich that people surf on, so we were on a mission to find it. We asked a few German people (luckily the guy who knows German was with us) but they all gave us different directions. We thought we finally had it right when we got on a street car. Luckily, we got on the right one and we found the river.
I am unsure what the name of the river was, but it was so cool. There was a bridge, with a dam, so the water would rush out. There was a group of about 7 surfers with body suits in line to surf across the river. They would just go and surf in and out of the waves until they fell over, and then they would rotate and another surfer would get
Pallack
My dinner....fried pallack and rice in. It was one of the most unique things I have ever seen. All we knew is that something like that would never happen in the US, because of some law or rule.
After that, we just kept walking around. We found several other cool buildings, in some of the pictures that I posted. There were beautiful gardens that were very well kept. We walked around until dusk and we took a few more photos by another cool building and statue.
We made our way back to the trainstation, and we made it at the right time- our train was departing in 5 minutes. It was perfect.
We were exhausted, as it had been a long day and it had been an even later night the night before. You can probaby tell from some of the photos how physically drained we were. But I think it was only me that slept in the train, for only a few minutes.
The train did not take us all the way to our stop in Ingolstadt, but to the other main hub in Ingolstadt. It is nearly 3 miles from our villa, so we hung around the station for
Munich
Garrett and me outside in Munich about 30 minutes to catch the train to our stop so we wouldnt have to walk 3 miles...but to be honest I do not think we could have made it, we were so tired. We were all in a haze.
So then we go back to the house and went to sleep. It was a nice day!
