D+12

We didn't start off to Arras until 1330hrs having done all our washing at the laundrette in Lillers. Normally we do our washing every day but the weather has been so bad that there is no way of drying anything. The day was another wet and windy one. It was getting quite dark when we arrived in Arras in another torrential downpour. By this stage I had had enough and checked into the first hotel we came to. Unfortunately the hotel was the most expensive in town. It cost us 2 days budget just for one night - but it was worth it to get out of the rain. Just before we arrived at Arras we passed a number of British Cemeteries. Although they were all well kept they were probably one of the saddest sights I have ever seen - so many lives lost. We are now in a small town called Hirson. Thankfully we have managed to find a Internet cafe - the first one we have seen in France. We would like to thank everyone who has sent messages to us - we appriciate it and will try to respond soon.
