The girls' introduction to Paris!
Bonjour (or bonsoir - whichever applies),

OK, well maybe I'll stay here (instead of the Cotswolds)!!
We've spent 8 full days here, and there is still more we would have liked to see. Our apartment (in Rue Rambuteau) is in a perfect position. We are about 30m from the Rambuteau Metro station and the Pompidou. The street is full of fruitiers, cafes, small general stores, poissonneries (fish), patisseries, boucheries (butchers), and boulangeries (bakeries). The courtyard in front of the Pompidou is alive with buskers and homeless people! Just beyond that is the Marais shopping district including Les Halles. It is also not far to walk to Notre Dame and the river. We've had a fabulous time. I must say, though, that the French are disgustingly slim. Most of the overweight people are tourists (you can tell because they carry their Lonely Planet/DK guidebook). Unlike Thailand where the clothes come in a one-size fits all ("same-same"), they do have different sizes, but I'm devastated that I have to resort to a Large sizing!!! Something is just not right!
We've balanced most days with a bit of sight seeing, a bit of history and a bit of shopping.

we picked a local restaurant from or DK guide book (it is a great reference). We ate at La Grizzli in Rue St Martin, and Allan reckoned the lamb rack was the best he'd ever eaten. As we left, a man on the adjoining table asked if we'd enjoyed our dinner, explaining that he was French and he loved it there. Can't get much better than that!
Our second last day happened to be Fete de Music day in Paris we kept stumbling upon musical performances. Around every corner was a small music ensemble or busking group. Every church and courtyard had a choir or concert performance. People were everywhere, they were rocking and rolling in Rue St Denis, and gathering in side alleys dancing to a DJs.
What a city!!

Postscript: I'm two weeks late uploading this because we were out of reach of a computer in the south of France. I hope to add the next blog installment shortly. We are now in West Kensington, London!
