Our first planned stop is at the town of Le Puy en Velay in the Auvergne, part of the Massive Central. It’s a long drive from the north coast but we aim to spend the next few days getting there using free motorways and D roads.

In beautiful weather we drove about 300k and stayed the night at a lovely camperstop on the banks of the Marne in the town of Chateau Thierry.

The journey was more relaxing for the driver due to a couple of new things. The automated manual gearbox made navigating the many roundabouts and traffic calming installations much easier. The 80k speed limit meant far less braking for corners and no desperate overtaking of lorries as they were going at the same speed.
