In the undulating land of the eastern foothills of the Vosges Mountains there lies a strip, 170k long, where all the Alsace Wines are grown. We had a delightful three days driving southwards along a signed route from Marlenheim near Strasbourg to Tuckheim near the capital of the region, Colmar. We passed thousands of acres of vineyards, spectacular in their yellow autumn hues and the multi coloured, flower strewn, half-timbered buildings of many beautiful towns, villages and hamlets which were sometimes overlooked by castles in the nearby hills.

We are members of an organisation called France Passion which is a collection of rural businesses who allow campervan travellers to stay overnight on their premises. There is no charge, but it is appreciated if visitors buy some of their products. We stayed at two wine producers, firstly in the town Obernai, and secondly in the village of Orschwiller. We were made very welcome on both occasions.
