So to the French Alps and Christmas! Merry Christmas to all, I hope your chrissie was as memorable as mine was. I travelled with my friend Amy who i met on the Scotland trip and her two flatmates Mel and Brad. It was a godsend as luckily there were four to a room and as we all knew eachother there was no need to lock up our stuff all the time.
We arrived after a 21 hour bus ride which was quite horrendous but quite tame compared to some of the other busses. There were about 350 on our SkiFest tour, all staying in the same place, so at times it was pretty crowded and hairy. Overall though it was managed pretty well, only a few yobbos spoiled it by having overly large parties in their room and breaking bus windows and such nonsense... Everything was organised for us, accomodation, meals, ski hire and lift passes, lessons and they organised parties (the 80's disco night was particularly notable) and activities like bobsledding and competitions so there was always something going on. Can't say i was too impressed with the majority of people on the tour as they were mostly pretty girls
and yobbos, but met a few nice people particularly in our lesson group.
We had lessons every afternoon which were great. Our instructor Sebastien was really cool, not to mention cute, and was very patient with us gumby's! I was a bit impatient the first afternoon as we didnt start our classes until the next day so i decided to go exploring. Wrong move! i went up on the nearest chairlift, didnt take a map and got pretty darn lost.... I eventually foud a sign pointing towards our village and thought sweet, i can get home before dinner! Ended up going down this red run, losing my skis and walking down the rest of the way which took me forever. Needless to say I took it a bit more slowly the next day! The lessons were a challenge too though. We started with a couple of groups and by the end of the week our two groups of about 15 had merged into one group of 9! At times i thought they were trying to kill us, but i think it always looks worse than it is... Like when they took us down this natural halfpipe, i did stack it
but i made it down pretty well considering. Didnt knock anyone over and the only person who knocked me over was one of the girls in our class who didnt know how to stop! But all in all it was an exhilarating week, perfect weather everyday which did result in the snow being a bit icy towards the end of the week, but it was bearable.
All in all I had a great week, was a bit sad to be away from the family on Christmas Day buy i did a pretty good job of distracting myself so it was ok. Next stop HOME!!!! Can't wait to see everyone and soak up the australian sun.
