Action!Action!Action!

Ouside the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès where the Cannes Film is held
Cannes, home of the Film Festival, and today that was quite obvious as the place was a hive of activity for next week’s festival!

As you walk through Cannes, you can feel the glitz and glamour ooze out at every corner. But what makes this place and the rest of the French Riviera so great? Is it the French and Italian influenced Architecture? The high mountains behind providing a beautiful backdrop? The clear and inviting ocean? The food? mmmmm yum! I know it not the pebbly beaches. Maybe it’s all this jammed into one, and the steep mountain limiting development, and pushing up the prices of what build-able area there is. All I know is that rich and famous like it, and so do I! but then someone once told me I have expensive taste. hehe

We headed straight down to towards the water and had a wander through the park. We saw the large Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, which is where the Cannes Film Festival is held… photos, photos and more photos…

It was France’s remembrance day, ‘Victoire 1945’, to mark the end of WWII. We saw the war memorial outside the hotel de ville,

the town hall, which was covered in flowers from this morning’s service.

We walked across to the western side of the bay and climbed the steep Mont Chevalier, which gave lovely views back across the marina and city. We had a look at the Church of Notre-Dame d’Esperance (built in the 16th and 17th C) and then also the fortified walls on the other side of the Mont.

We walked down through the marina to have a look at more boats, and wandered out on to the Quai Maxime Laubeuf, to try and get some photos back across to central Cannes… arh, yes,.. more photos!

Brendan went to have a look at more boats while Leah and I hung out on the beach at ‘Plage Du Midi’ and did what we do best, people watching, and gosh, there were some strange people!

We had a look around some of the shops before getting the train back to Antibes. We had a lovely dinner at a fancy Thai restaurant by the old city walls, then went to a club around the corner ‘extreme café’ to meet up with Toby (his skipper on this next boat) and some

other friends from a previous ship he worked on.
As everyone in the café was in similar line of work as Brendan and his mates, Leah and I were pretending to random people that we were from some big exciting ship, but we soon realised we didn’t know the first thing about boats!!
