Poitiers
Just one of the unusual buildings in Futuroscope. 18/10/2008 - It was Hannah’s brothers 21st birthday coming up and to surprise him we arranged to visit for the weekend in Poitiers where he was studying. It wasn’t something that we really planned to do beforehand, it was all quite last minute, but since Hannah’s dad was paying for flights and hotel for us we couldn’t resist. We took a day off work and flew into Poitiers where we met up with Hannah’s parents. They drove us to Matthew’s accommodation where we all said hello and happy birthday before heading out for dinner to celebrate. There were quite a few of us consisting of mostly family and Matthew’s Uni friends and we all ate and drank ourselves silly. After eating dinner Matthew and his Uni mates headed out for drinks, Hannah and I were so tired we decided to give it a miss and head back to our hotel on the other side of town.
19/10/2008 - This morning we woke up had eaten breakfast at the hotel before heading over to Matthew’s place to meet everyone before we left for a theme park called Futuroscope. Futuroscope was a future themed park consisting of dozens of cinema and audio/visual

This building has water streaming down one entire side of it style rides. We all jumped into the car and drove the short trip to Futuroscope. The first thing you notice once arriving was the futuristic style buildings, some of which were really impressive, each of them housing a different ride. It was when we received the map that I realised how big this place was, I don’t think there was any chance we could see everything. Since there were a few of us we decided to do this logically and start with rides on the left hand side and work our way around the entire park. The rides were a mixture of unusual, freaky or really lame, but overall it was really enjoyable. One particular ride required you to understand French, as they took you around in total darkness to experience what it’s like to be blind, I went on it anyway, it was great even though I had absolutely no idea what was going on.
We spent hours and hours going from ride to ride until we came to the one ride I was a little nervous about, the robot arm. From our view in the queue it looked quite intense, there were 3 levels of intensity and

Views across Futuroscope theme park. we weren’t going for anything less then maximum. It was great, amazing fun being thrown around while strapped to a robot. We continued on going on a few more rides before it was time to get some dinner, we had to skip the final few rides to get some food. We stopped at one of the restaurants in the theme park and rushed dinner down so we could make it for the live sound and light show in the centre of the park. We arrived to find it had already started but we grabbed a seat and watched the show. Once it finished we headed back to the car, stopping for lengthy browse around in the gift shop. It was an awesome day, we had been at Futuroscope for over 8 hours. As soon as we got back to the hotel Hannah and I fell straight asleep.
20/10/2008 - Today was our final day on what was a very short visit to Poitiers. We woke up and checked out of the hotel, leaving our luggage at Matthew’s place. Since I hadn’t really had a good look around the town yet, that’s what I decided to do today. Hannah and

Another unusual building at Futuroscope I headed out and explored the town, the standout sight was the beautifully impressive Cathedral which stood in the centre of the town. To be honest there wasn’t really much else to do here, it was a lovely small city however mainly dominated by students who came to study from England. We met up with Hannah’s family and ate lunch at a lovely restaurant in the centre of town, before it was time to head back and get ready to be dropped off at the nearby airport to head back to London. Our flight was in the late afternoon and we eventually arrived back home late on Sunday night.
