An example of a modern day philosopher that has enlightened the world is Voltaire. In my belief, Voltaire is the reason why people may be polytheistic. He is most known for his attacks on the established Catholic Church, and his advocacy of freedom of religion, freedom of expression, and separation of church and state. He was born in Paris, France and he also died there. Voltaire’s major falls into four categories; poetry, plays, historical works, and philosophical works. Voltaire’s work in college inspired him to get involved in the enlightenment, which made him one of the most well-known philosophers in history. He stated that people should be able to follow their own religion without restrictions. He made it okay for people to serve God in many other ways instead of the old-fashioned, traditional way. This made a great influence on society because it expanded the minds of people who once felt obligated to a certain religion or to serve God a certain way.
