Breakfast
Omelette and croissant with tea Today was a beautiful day! We got up at a decent time, but between trying to get everyone ready, having to make two trips to the grocery store (just beside the apartment), one trip to get a couple last minute things for our breakfast and a second trip to get a new lighter so that we could get the gas stove working. We ended up having a late breakfast (10:30am) of an omelette and French croissants. After breakfast we headed to the Metro station to catch the metro and head to the Arc de Triomphe. Dad took his first selfie with the Arc in the background! We then walked down the Champ de Élysées, a famous street in Paris. Last time we were here it was rainy and overcast so instead of strolling along we had to rush from cover to cover. Today it was beautiful and the sun was shining. We made it about halfway down the Champ de Élysées before birds, cars and shops caught our attention. There were Ferrari's and Lambourginhi's parked along the street that people can pay to test drive. Mike was tempted, but without an international drivers license, and more importantly not being able to
Breakfast
Family breakfast drive a standard he didn't opt for a test drive. We found a few clothing stores and each of us bought some clothes! even though tomorrow is officially our shopping day. After all of our purchases we ended up at Pont Round Park where we found an empty bench to relax, watch the people and, in Ed's case, birdwatch. Bev and Mike went in search of something for lunch. They came back with banana and Nutella crepes, which were delicious! As we left the park Ed saw a blue tit in the trees, a new bird for his Paris list! At the end of the Champ de Élysées we tried to get into the metro but the station was closed. We decided that rather than going back to the previous one we might as well walk a bit farther to the next station. This took us past Agelina, a famous tearoom and seller of hot chocolate, which Mike and Bev indulged in. While they were drinking the hot chocolate we went across the street to the Tuileries (which used to be the Kings garden back when the Louvre was a palace. Mike was anxious to get going to La Chope
Arc de Triomphe
Mike and Bev in front of the Arc de Triomphe des Pouce, a restaurant and bar that has gypsy jazz on Sunday. We took the metro to the end of the line and after a 15 minute walk we ended up at the restaurant. We got a table near the stage and listened to the tree piece gypsy Jazz performers, they were quite good. We ordered dinner but had only eaten a bit of it when the performers finished. We thought that the gypsy jazz went until 7pm so we were surprised that they had stopped at 5:30. We finished our dinner and listened to the performers in the bar section of La Chope des Pouce. Before heading out to the outdoor market place we saw on the way to the restaurant. Some interesting things but nothing that really caught our eye so we headed back to the room for a glass of wine, cider and cards!
