Damian was up at 7am to get to the laundromat to wash a heap of clothes. Our apartment in Paris has a beautiful looking washer/dryer - that does not work. The Apartment managers have not returned our calls or emails and clearly don't care too much about their customers. Such a pity as it does nothing to help change Damian's mind about the attitudes of the French...
From then on, the day got worse. But then got better!!
They say that Paris is a northern city that thinks it is in the south (in actual fact, it has three times more annual rainfall than London). The temperature got to a balmy 7C. Apparently, with the wind chill, it was more like 5C. As far we were concerned, with the rain and the wind it felt like -2C. Massimeno was warmer when it was snowing!
Nontheless we boarded the Batobus at Hotel de Ville to take a tour of the city and, hopefully, visit the Le Tour Eiffel. The Batobus is not a bus but a ferry. It does a loop on the Seine from Jardin des Plantes to Tour Eiffel all day and you can hop on and
off all you like. It's nice way to get around.
Our first hop-off stop was Champs-Élysées. By the time we got off the ferry and on to the road the rain, wind and cold temperature had taken its toll and we were heading back to get on the next ferry. Unbelievable! We decided to try le Tour Eiffel, without much hope in our minds. And we were right - hordes of people standing in lines and in even worse weather conditions. The day was not looking good.
But, Emily was taking full advantage of the classic Paris April weather and rain and showcasing her new clothes and accessories. You can see some in the photos. The boys continue to wear their bogan hoodies.
Lunch was back at the apartment and the afternoon was a write-off due to bad weather. Les enfants relaxed with TV and Youtube. Damian and Sue ventured off for some touring of the Paris streets in the rain and some shopping.
After dinner, we decided to try the ferry and Tour Eiffel one more time. What do you know? When we got outside we saw that the rain had stopped and the wind
was hardly noticeable. As we headed towards the ferry Emily proclaimed she had "found a Euro!" (well it was 1 cent, actually) - this was her good luck coin for the night.
We jumped on the ferry, headed straight for le Tour. On the way there, the clouds parted and we saw blue skies! When we got there we found a short queue and in no time, we were climbing our way to the second level. Emily's good luck coin was working wonders.
By the time we got to the second level, the tower lights had starting coming on and the sun was well on its way for the night - the view was spectacular!
On our way home, we watched the light show around the tower.
It turned out to be a great day in Paris.
