Can't believe we are in Paris again, after an easy plane ride compared to a 22h bus ride I'm glad we chose to fly. We stayed in the Monmartre district for the first three nights which is home to the Sacre Ceur and the red light district.
The night we arrived we walked up to the Sacre Ceur which wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, and was well worth it because the views were amazing. The Bacilica was also very beautiful, we got some great photos of the Eiffel tower when the lights started to sparkle.
There was a band playing at the top which was cool but we couldn't understand any of the words. And we both loved the small town at the top of the Sacre Ceur with artists lining the streets, lots of restaurants and lovely lights.
After that we went back down the hill to the red light district to catch a glimpse of the Moulin Rouge, it was cool to see (may be one day I'll go to a show there).
We had a laugh walking around and looking at the other offerings in the red light district, including the Sexadrome
Sacre Coeur
Me at the top (very interesting).
The next day we made out way to the free walking tour, when we arrive we got told that it was going to be a four hour walking tour ahh!
But it was great our guide really knew his stuff and took us to all the sights and told us all about the history.
We walked along the Seine the river which divides Paris in half. The houses along the Seine were so cute and along the walls of the Seine were big rings which dated back to Medieval times when boats were pulled up the river. The group were suprised to see divers in the Seine. (So dirty).
We arrived at the Louvre and I got goose bumps for a second when I saw the Pyramids they were just how I amagined them to be. I did another leap in front of the famous Louvre.
We saw the Concord the Eiffel Tower and the little Arch de Triomphe, three monuments in one photo (cool). Both of us didn't know that there was a little Arch de Triomphe. Next we walked past the Opera house which was beautiful and I was excited to walk
down the 2nd most expensive street in the world.
The Tuilerises Gardens were nice and was interesting to see, especially because they used to be the Royal Gardens. After the gardens the tour ended we gave the guide 10 euros and went on our own walk up to the Champs Elysees.
At the top of the Champs Elysees which was quite a long street we could see the real Arc de Triomphe. We stopped in a huge Louis Vouton shop, which was allowed to be open on Sunday because Louis Vuton said his shop was a museum of fashion (normal shops have to stay closed) he's a smart guy.
We got to the Arc de Triomphe and didn't attempt to cross the dozen avenues that radiate from the biggest round-about in the world. We settled for the safer approach of going under the road walk way. Apparenty there is a crash every 30 mins and no insurance companies insure you if you are on the round- about. We both couldn't believe it when we saw two people riding their bikes around it with no helmets on. (Insane). We were quite exhaused by the end of the day
so decided to go back to the hotel.
Today we went to the Louvre the high light being the Mona Lisa, it was quite small and behind 3 inches of bullet proof glass. It also didn't help being on a huge wall by itself with one of the biggest paintings in Europe directly opposite it. It was good to see. We also saw Vinise De Milo's sculpture and a few other works of art that I hardly recognised. What I would like to know is, where is the painting of the "Last Supper". I have no idea but would like to see it one day.
After the Louvre we went for a walk to the Notre Dame the rose windows inside were very pretty and I was so interested to learn that distances from Paris to every part of metropolition France is measured from the Notre Dame, it is the true centre of Paris. We sat and relaxed for a while outside the Notre Dame.
With sore feet we decied not to go too much further, but one thing I really wanted to see was the Rose Line from the book the Divinci Code. We found it
in St Sulpice Church and had to walk around inside the church to find it. I was so excited and had my picture taken.
We went back to the hotel and had one of my favourite dinners at La Marmites.
On our last day we changed hostel and then made our way to the Catacombes which were very creepy. We got in for cheap because we are under 25 and once we got looking at the bones we decided not to linger around to too long. I couldn't believe how many there were. We got some crazy photos and we were so suprised to find that when we got to the top a man was checking bags because apparenty some people try and steal skulls and stuff. Crazy!
We had dinner close to the Eiffel tower and tried to stay there until 9pm when the lights would come on, but it rained and it was cold so we left. Dont worry we will be back in 3 months.
