Here's our photos from the Dordogne region. This was one of our favourite areas as it was very quiet and laid back. The architecture was different again with layered stone roofs on the cottages, the beautiful Dordogne river flowing through and the rolling paddocks with round hay bales.... read more

It’s been a pretty uneventful week, as I promised. Tuesday we chopped down our poor little pathetic tree. It really is sad…it’s missing branches for about the top 2 feet of it. Will says it gives it character, so we’ll just go with that. We found a store with lots of Christmas decorations and we picked out our tinsel and beads…Will picked blue, I picked purple and we decided to throw in some silver too! We also bought some lights for around the mantle and we looked for Christmas stockings but they’re nowhere to be found. We spent the evening decorating our tree and then enjoyed beef stew that had been simmering on the wood burner all day…delicious! Yesterday I wasn’t feeling well so we literally stayed in all day and watched movies… Then today I ... read more

It’s now Monday night in France-land and I’m curled up on the couch in front of the fire, waiting for our pork chops to be finished cooking. I’ll tell you what, this is the life. My largest responsibility in any given day is getting out of bed and showering myself. And I’m taking full advantage of it because I know in three weeks I’ll be overwhelmed with paper-writing and studying…and considering I haven’t been to a proper university in almost 2 years, I suspect it will take some getting used to! Will and I had a good weekend. Friday we ended up on a spontaneous Chateau visit…we were bored and decided to go for a drive and stumbled upon a string of castles. (Do you realize how ridiculous it feels to say ‘oh we stumbled upon ... read more

I am now at Will’s in the south of France! I took the train here on Tuesday and then Will and I headed to a holiday party for international students at his University. We were both expecting a quiet get together for dinner and instead walked in on a raging party with free alcohol and techno music. Surprise! We didn’t partake in any of the extreme activities but did find ourselves munching on some goodies from around the world (I believe everyone was asked to bring a dish from their home country to share). There was sushi and German potato salad with hot dogs and of course lots and lots of delicious tarts and chocolates…needless to say, I was quiet pleased. We only stayed long enough to meet his classmates and fill our tummies and then ... read more

Forgotten France And Sickness Recovery It seems that, while France is a major destination for many people the world over, there are large parts of the country that just get overlooked. If you do your research and have a good amount of time then probably the under-explored parts fit into your itinerary but, for the average guest to this nation, only the big tourist stops make it onto the must see list. Purely because of our long term goal, eventual arrival in Barcelona, did we venture into areas that were a bit less traveled. After experiencing the forgotten South of France, I would definitely say it’s worth your time if you have some to spare! Deep In The Dordogne The Dordogne River Valley - we visited the Périgord section - is just west of the ... read more
