Hello!
I was up at 6:30am (French time) so 12:30am (US time) to read about the election results!
Today was our last day of vacation and tomorrow it's back to school. I only have 2 hours tomorrow and then 1 hour on Friday, so it won't be a tough week. Then it's the weekend again! As much as I've enjoyed les vacances, I think it will be good to go back to school and get into a routine again.
Last Thursday we got back from our trip and we also got our first month's pay! That was a nice surprise. Friday I did some grocery shopping and renewed my Tram/Bus pass for the month of November. Saturday I got back into running again(after of week of not running my usual 4 miles every day) so I was a little sore/unmotivated to get out running again(although we walked all over Vienna and Prague, so I shouldn't feel too lazy). But that lasted two days and now I'm back to normal. Tomorrow I'll return to the running club and get a good run in with them. Monday was a trip to the laundromat and I tried to put together my
lesson plans for the next few weeks. I was semi productive. Tuesday afternoon I met with Lucy, one of the other assistants and a friend of hers who was visiting from Calais, and we went ice skating. There's an ice skating rink at the Palais des Sports in Mulhouse. It was rather crowded too, mostly kids and teens, so I felt like I was in school or at teen camp. It's been awhile since I've gone ice skating so I was really nervous at first and had a few moments where I almost fell...but I didn't! It was much easier once they smoothed out the ice again. There was music and a DJ..it reminded me of when I was younger and we would go to Ringing Rocks to roller skate...those were the days! We stayed for about 2 hours. My feet/ankles were sore that night and even into today from the skates.
Later that night, I met Marc, one of the English teachers, and we drove southeast of Mulhouse (in direction of Basel) to Habsheim where friends of his live. It was so nice to meet some French people and we spoke French all night. They had dinner for
us. It was delicious. Before dinner we had Kronenbourg with a bit of PICON, that has an orange taste to it...so an aperitif I guess. Something new. With dinner we had red wine and they seemed so impressed that I like red wine. She was like "qu'elle aime le vin rouge, c'est deja bien." They live more in the country so it reminded me of home and they built a beautiful house with an in-ground pool and they even have a horse. They are really into Bluegrass music and play the guitar and cello. So after dinner they played some Bluegrass music for me on the guitar and even introduced to some classic French music. Let's just say it was great night....good food, great people.... and all in French!
Today I took the train to Nancy. I walked around for most of the day through most of the Old City until I was too tired to see anything else. I still had about 2 and 1/2 hours till my train so I decided to see a movie. The only movie that was available at 2:45 was High School Musical 3. Haha. It was dubbed in French, but the songs
were left untouched, so they had sub-titles in French with the lyrics. I would have preferred to have seen a French movie but oh well...it was something to do.
I hope you are all enjoying my blog entries and thank you again for commenting and sending me messages. It's so good to hear from everyone so don't stop!! If you wanted to send me mail to my address here in France, e-mail me and I'll give you my address! 😊 😊
Talk to you soon...
Kris
