Iceland from the plane
Man, I totally forgot how cool this country was! So I guess I have to post just one more update.
Awaken and kept from falling back asleep by some more snorers, I decided to go on a morning walk around 7:30 to get out of the stuffy and annoying room. I walked around the surrounding neighbourhood once more, really taking in my surroundings as this would be the last time I would be wandering alone in Europe for, I would imagine with school and everything, quite a while.
Feeling a little hungry (or maybe still a bit full from dinner the night before, I couldn't really tell) I eventually went down the street to the bakery once more. I had calculated that I had exactly enough Danish currency left for my bus ride to the train station, a Danish and a raisin bun for later.
When I got there around quarter to 8, the place was packed! I guess everyone truly does buy fresh bread like everyday and they must all do it before going to work and school in the morning. Close proximity to a bakery has definitely become not only a must for future hostels, but also for any future homesteads!
So I walked
around a little more to kill some time and hopefully give the people enough time to purchase their deliciousness, and then went back to make my accusations.
No cappuccino today (it wasn't in the budget) so I made my own instant Nespresso coffee back at the hostel to accompany my treats, and put together the yogurt and strawberries that I had left in the fridge.
Good fuel to start a loooong day of travel.
I checked out, and took the bus down to the central train station and caught a train to the airport, only about a 20 minute ride, that used up my 8th of 9 allowed travel days, so I did pretty good with that.
Always growing up being at the airport suuuuuper early with my family I left myself a little too much time to get there and get checked in.
The timetable went something like this.
10:22 - leave hostel to go to bus stop
...….……
11:50 - luggage checked in, through security and sitting at the gate with a coffee
...………
2:00 - take off.
So there was a lot of time to reflect on my trip and
also just write the blog from the day before.
The first flight from Copenhagen back to Reykjavik was smooth, no problems, and just over 3 hours long.
We got to Iceland, I bought my Icelandic Chocolate that I promised my mum and then headed to the next gate, not even a 10 minute walk away... No additional security, and I didn't have to pick up my bag and check it again, super convenient for sure!
This flight was also smooth, no problems but a little bit longer at just under 6 hours.
I watched Interstellar, maybe not the best choice while on an airplane with tons of time to contemplate life and stuff, and then, needing something more lighthearted, about 7 back-to-back episodes of the Big Bang Theory 😉
I was trying to stay awake the whole time to beat the jet lag as I was schedule to work the next afternoon, and for the most part that worked.
We touched down in Toronto, and I got through customs and baggage claim really fast for Canada!
I came out to the meeting point and, like requested, my lovely parents were standing there with a sign reading 'Mr. N. Ballarin' aha. I'll take this time to thank them very much so for all there efforts and help along the way; they were nothing but supportive and I greatly appreciate being part of a family where travel is such a prominent aspect of our lives. So thanks again and hope I made you proud by putting everything you've taught me to use 😊 I'm home and alive, so you must've done something right !
And thank you all again for your support and there's much more I could say but would definitely prefer to speak with you in person as there's only so much I can write.
Take care, and Europe: "It's been real!"
