emperor's hall
the room we all met in today was our first full day in prague. it was exciting, fun, stressful later tonight and finally the stress was resolved about 10 minutes ago.
we woke up at 7:30, got ready and then went downstairs for breakfast. it's the only meal they provide us with, so we were all about taking advantage of that. but...we got downstairs and the line was ridiculously long and moving slowly. plus, we had to meet one of the czech students at 8:30. so we decided to venture out and locate someplace to grab some juice and breakfast. we found a cute little convenience type store- so i got "cappy" brand juice (it's by coca cola, and the brand looks like minute maid) and a bagel looking pastry to eat.
after breakfast, we all met up with cyril (i'm probably completely misspelling this, since it is a czech name)- he took us on the underground (which is amazing clean, just like the rest of this place!!) and we got off in old town. omg- absolutely gorgeous, and so picturesque! we walked for a little bit until we got to the emperor's hall, a building that is part of the university. there we met

a beautiful room- they were having a graduation there today! as a class for a while, getting to know each other (there are 10 of us mizzou students and 12 czech students). after discussing the goals of the class, etc.--- we went on a tour of this beautiful building (see some of the pictures) and then back to the underground to get our month passes.
this was an ordeal in itself: getting a month long pass takes a few minutes (you have to show passport, sign a few papers, she has to make the pass, etc.) and there were about 7 of us in line. so a huge line started to form, and at one point this crazy woman started yelling at cyril about how we were taking too long, and that large groups need to go to this special office or something. he talked back to her and she finally just got in line, but then we decided we needed to pretend we were by ourselves and not in a group lol. luckily i got my pass- all is well.
after that we walked around old town (saw an AMAZING view of prague castle and the charles bridge- see more pictures) and then broke into smaller groups
a view!!!!!
a picturesque view of the area surrounding prague castle to go have lunch. it's so neat getting to talk with all of the czech students- they ask us questions, we ask them questions- it's so awesome getting to compare and contrast our lives. and they all speak english so well! it's a beautiful sounding language.
when everybody had finished lunch, we headed to this advertising agency to all meet up again. we listened to a presentation on branding of a country that ladislav (the czech prof-- he's SOOOO awesome) which made the whole idea of this class make a lot more sense to me. 😊 then the czech students gave a presentation on how they view the brand of the USA, basically telling us how the world views america and what contributes to this. listening to them give this presentation that they have worked on for months made us all feel a little weird- just because we (the mizzou students) didn't prepare anything! not that we would be able to give a presentation on how we view brand czech...but still. after their presentation we all left (it was about 3) and the czech students wanted to take us "out for a beer." (this is very common and a

katie and me in front of the beautiful view little strange to get used to- but it's fun times.) so we walked and walked and walked for a while and finally ended up going up this hill to a beer garden, an outdoor pub of sorts. it had an WONDERFUL view of the city, and we all ended up just sitting there and talking for a few hours. (and yes, maxine had her first ever beer! it cost a little over a dollar lol and it was actually pretty good. don't know if i'll be having anymore, but i figured this was the perfect place to have my first. fun times...😊
at around 6 we headed back, and showered because we were feeling pretty gross. at around 8:30 we decided to go find this pizzeria we had seen earlier. here's where the fun began...
earlier in the day, one of the students offered to take 3 people on a driving tour of prague. katie and i, plus our friend dionne, decided to take her up on this offer. she said she'd pick us up at 9:30. obviously we were not making a smart move leaving for pizza at 8:30...but go figure lol.
so we're at the
me at the beer garden
me in front of a the gorgeous view from the beer garden pizzeria, and it's like 9:00. i'm like "katie..we should try contacting her and ask her if we can shoot for 10 instead." we try calling the girl's number, and it isn't working. so katie decides to head back to the dorm to try and find her, and then she said she'd have her drive over to the pizzeria to pick me up. so katie leaves...and we wait and wait for her...and soon it's 10:30, we've eaten- and no katie. so the rest of us decide to try and head back.
um...basically we got lost. lol- it was 11:00 and we were completely lost. it was not a fun time- i was freaking about where katie was, and where we were, and thinking to myself that if katie had been upducted i would just feel completely responsible.
finally we were able to relocate the pizzeria and try heading home again- this time trying the right way. 😊 so we get back...and there's katie!! i screamed and hugged her. i kind of felt deep down that she would be...but i was so glad to see her. turns out she and dionne met up at the dorm, and then the czech student came to the dorm to pick them up. katie tried to direct her to the pizzeria, but couldn't find it because she wasn't walking. sad! but they ended up getting the driving tour and having an awesome time. i'm a little sad i didn't get to go (and feeling majorly stupid and letting katie walk by herself, even just back to the dorm- since we managed to get lost) but i'm just glad everything turned out ok. lessons learned...and everyone is fine. 😊
tomorrow i think we might get to tour prague castle when class is over...more later!
xoxo
