part of the cathedral
my favorite part- i zoomed in, STUNNING! Another busy (and especially warm…yeah, no AC ANYwhere) day, and it’s not even over yet!
We did manage to get breakfast today in the dorm- they give us all cards with 70 crowns each on them (about 3 dollars, a little more). Then you go thru the line just picking out what you want—all I could pick out was a box of orange juice and 2 rolls lol. But then I got to the front of the line, and the woman rang that up as only being 20 crowns, so she just reached over and picked a bottle of voda with gas (my fav! Dad- I know you love it too!) and another juice box for me lol. So this was still only 50 crowns…but apparently that was enough. I appreciated it though, and saved the bottle of water for later.
We got to the bus station and left for our first stop of the day: this funky and sophisticated ad agency, Young and Rubicam. (We went to another ad agency later in the day, and at each place we sit in a conference room and they bring us water, soda, juice, coffee, tea and little snacks—it’s pretty swanky
Mark BBDO
i was sitting on the floor- we met in this conference room that had stained glass windows! lol.) The Czech students gave another presentation, this time on Brand Czech (how the world views the Czech Republic) and we talked for a while about the interesting choice of logo that the Czech Republic currently has. Class so far is kind of hard to explain…it’s a lot of setting up stuff for the project we’ll be starting on Friday- so more details to follow.
After leaving this agency, we went for lunch at a “canteen” where I had (and I’m being COMPLETELY serious) fried cheese and potatoes as my meal. Not even joking- this is a very popular meal choice here. I even learned how to say it in Czech so I could order by myself, which I think impressed my Czech friends. I try to speak at least a little bit whenever I can- “please,” “thank you,” “yes,” “no,” “voda.” But most everyone knows at least some English- I hope they realize I’m trying though ☺
We walked up the same hill as yesterday to get to the second ad agency, BBDO. It was really neat because it was in this really old building, but the agency itself was modern and cool. There, we talked for
a few minutes about the project and broke into our groups. Then they let us go…seriously--- not a lot of class so far. It kind of rocks, because after class the Czech students take us places! After meeting for those few minutes, they took us to this extremely old cathedral (see pics). There is also a famous cemetery there, where famous people (and “rich people” apparently) are buried- it was really beautiful. Also there were catacombs—a wonderful tour since it was underground, which meant it was cooler!—and interesting because of the great history of them. Probably my favorite part: inside of the catacombs where the original statues from Charles Bridge! Awesome, awesome, awesome.
After, we went back to Old Town where Sandy (our prof) took us around for a bit. I <3 Old Town- it is incredibly gorgeous, and it is amazing to think how long these buildings have existed! Eventually he left us, and we went shopping a little bit. We even found this amazing shoe store that is 6 stories!! I didn’t get anything today…but we might go back…We hopped the underground back to our dorm for about an hour, and then went back to Old
old town square- statue
this is where we planned to meet to go to the pub Town to meet up with some of our Czech friends at a pub.
And…I had another beer. Lol—I promise this isn’t going to be an everyday occurrence. But I just HAD to try the dark kind, and it was pretty good. It was a little scary though whenever they brought out this huge looking bottle and a mug for me…my friends thought it was pretty funny, and taught me how to pour it properly (we took pics—they kind of get a kick out of seeing me drink).
We left the pub (about an hour ago) and walked around Old Town some more with 3 of our Czech friends—we love them SO much already! They are so sweet, they are always willing to take us places and help us in speaking the language. And it’s so much fun to talk with them. Now we’re back and I’m pretty tired but probably won’t even go to bed for another hour or so…later!
