Check-in; Pretty funny, actually. Our little Istok is the tiniest boat on the Adriatic, so people are a bit weary of it as it is. Add to that the fact that we were docked at a broken-down, under-construction part of the port and the pax had to walk across gravel and pipes and glass shards to get there... the closer they came to the boat, the more you could see them start to rue the day they opted for the low-budget option! Two girls took one look at the Istok and immediately ran to the Ika and upgraded. Thankfully, the rest of the group were as chilled-out as you can get, didn't mind showering outside on the deck (because the bathrooms are too small to stand in!) and we had a terrific week.
Day 1; Mljet
Number of pax for dinner; 10 (bbq onboard)
We had a really nice swim stop at dusk, then a beautiful ride into Polace. It was my first time in Polace, and whilst Sipan is still first in my heart, I was impressed with this little town too. Our bbq was delicious (the chef on the Istok, Cookie, is by far the best of
all the boats) and then we had a few drinks onboard before calling it an early night (probably the earliest night I've had in months, and it was AMAZING!)
Day 2; Mljet / Korcula
Number of pax for dinner; 12 (Caenazzo)
*oh my God, we just saw dolphins beside the boat as I'm writing this!*
We all headed into the National Park at 10am, and I take back all the slagging off I've done of that park in the past, because we had a really nice time there. We got the bus into Pristaniste, then walked 2km to Mali Most, hired canoes and canoed out to the monastery and back (I had a professional rower in my canoe so, not gonna lie, I had a pretty easy ride!). After the canoes we had a short swim, then walked the 2km back to Pristaniste, caught the bus back to Polace, and were back on the boat just in time for a much-anticipated lunch.
Korcula was good that night; my cat-man was there and let us into his cat lair again (if I haven't mentioned him before, he's an old guy who feeds about 25 manky cats on
one street, including a bunch of tiny super-cute kittens. It's my favourite part of the Korcula walking tour, and it"s such an added bonus when the cat-man is there!)
When we arrived at Dos Locos, everyone was a bit knackered and went home early, except for me and a girl named Bree (probably my favourite pax all season). We sat with Nik, and as I'd been coughing up a lung for the past few days, Nik suggested shots of rakija to cure me. I decided it couldn't hurt, so I had about 4 of them. For the record, rakija doesn't cure coughs, but it definitely makes you care less!
Also that night, one of the cute waiters named Marko proposed to me as he's just as keen on a Canadian passport as I am on a Croatian one. I'm keeping myself free for Sasa from Kiva, but if that doesn't work out, it's good to know I have options.
Day 3; Hvar
Number of pax for dinner; 12 (picnic)
The day started off amazingly when Captain Tonci cooked up the mussels he'd caught in Mljet. Monica and I devoured about a thousand of them each, plus
delicious tomatoes and red wine. We were super horny afterwards from all the aphrodisiacs, so it was a good thing we were heading to Hvar that night where all the beautiful people are. 😉
Hvar gets better and better every single week. This week, we stopped at the great beach bar once again, and Captain Tonci joined us there for an ice coffee. The picnic was fab, Carpe Diem was excellent, and I officially decided to stop looking for other boyfriends around the islands and concentrate solely on my love for Sasa from Kiva. If only it weren't for his pesky girlfriend...!
I decided to give curing my cough with hard alcohol another go, and Johnnie Walker straight out of the bottle was my spirit of choice tonight. Needless to say, I had to take myself home by 1am.
Day 4; Bol
Number of pax for dinner; 9 (wine tasting) 12 (for wine/cheese in the dock)
We put my new Monopoly game to good use this afternoon while stopped at Zlatni Rat, and then my New Best Friend Bree and I did a little spa session with masks and eye cucumbers to rid ourselves of the
toxins we'd ingested the night before.
The wine tasting was really fun again, and for dinner we picked up wine and cheese and ate on the dock beside the boat. The moon was shining on the water and there was a boat stopped right in the middle of it... I think it'll make all of our Top 10 Most Beautiful Nights list.
Day 5; Makarska
Number of pax for dinner; 12 (Peskera)
(I decided this morning that the way to beat my cough was a mixture of antibiotics and no alcohol or cigarettes for 3 days, so my next few entries might be a little tame).
Good times in the markets and at dinner in Makarska. Afterwards, we had bottles of wine on the beach and watched a young couple getting busy in the sea. We had a nice time at Deep later on, sitting on the rocks beside the sea.
Day 6; Omis
Number of pax for dinner; 12 (Cap'ns Dinner)
We had nice coffees in Omis when we arrived, then got ready for pirate party (would you believe, after about 7 pirate parties, I still don't have a proper outfit!). It was a fairly quiet one for a change... some of the boys from Gary's boat came to hang with my girls and we had nice drinks and chats. No guide or mascot-stealing antics ensued.
Day 7; Split
Number of pax for dinner; 13 (Golden Gate)
We climbed to the Stari Grad fort in the morning, which was great, and then hit the beach immediately afterwards, then went to scarf down a burek before lunch (mmm... Burek).
We had a good dinner in Split (I know Reno isn't our favourite supplier, but his food really is good), then a few drinks (water for me) at Red Room, and were home by 1am.
This was, by far, the quietest group I've had yet, but they were fantastic and they all had a great time. It's nice to see people enjoying the daytimes as much as the nightimes, sans hangover!
