My first meal out
Sharing a meal with some of the crew from the hostel. Hey all!
The last 3 days have been gr8, seeing the sights of Vienna, meeting many ppl and enjoying the night/evening life that Vienna ahs to offer. Immediately after I finished the last blog I met an Australian, 3 americans, 2 canadians, an english chap (older fella) and a mexican chap...who happened to be the bar tender....see where this is going? Haha! After the last blog I decided to venture into the bar of the hostel and ran into some cruisy ppl. Played some drinking games, (they) played some music, and we talked crap for a long time, good times. We all decided to head out where many locals where, and by sunrise the 4km walk back to the hostel began. Once my head hit the pillow I knew what I was going to be doing for the majority of the day. I only left the hostel for food and spent the majority of the time in bed. I met many more backpackers throughout the evening, sitting in the garden and chatting. Yesterday, feeling fresh and energised from all the rest of the previous day I embarked on a walk into vienna and relaxed in one of their amazing gardens, which
Vienna Boys Choir
My actual view of the service/choir, however there was a tv to my far far left that showed a little more seem to be everywhere. After waking up with sticks and leaves stuck to my face I decided to give into the heat (consistantly in the high 20s but the sun had some bite). I caught the u-bahn to the danube river and walked through several parks on the bank of the river. Clearly the Viennese use this area as there "beaching" area. There were many groups of people enjoying the sun (plenty of topless bathing) and also the water, so i decided to indulge in both (the water from the danude river is actually used for drinking water upstream of the danube canal so the water quality was quite good). I came out of the water to find this kid crying and pointing at me and the water. As he was approaching his mother was saying something also, not understanding and presuming he was just pissed at me for being allowed to go swimming i got dressed and sat back down in the sun. After 5 mins a good samaritan came over to the boy and retrieved his shoe from the water. He was asking me to get his show for him which was 20 m away, i felt like
Imperial Court Chapel
The place where the boys choir performed during the sunday service (that was in german). such an arse, so i did my best to apologise to the boy and his mother in terrible german. After returning back to the hostel, I met more really nice people (2 canadian girls Brenda & Jen, 2 american guys John & Brendan), we spoke for hours and decided to go into the city for tea and beers (photos of all this are on the way). I had some really nice bratwurst with sauerkraut (cabbage flavour wasnt too strong so it was too great) and also some crazy potato thing. T'was gr8! Today the group of us hung out for most of the day. We dicided to get up early and go see the Vienna Boys Choir at a mass (mum will be happy with this) at the Habsburg's Palace. We payed 5 euro to get a seat to see the mass. Hearing the Vienna Boys Choir was absolutely amazing and definately worth the 5 euros! But that was where the enjoyment finished. It was actually quite comical. As the choir are quite possible there were many many tourists and all of these tourists had to fit into a very small church. So although we got to sit inside the church and hear the choir, we did not get to see them or the mass proceedings. Our seats had a great view of a wall which was a metre in front of me and if i looked to the right I could see a tv where they were broadcasting the actual mass and choir (the service was also in german so I understood nothing). I had to laugh. As there was nothing to look at I had plenty of time to browse the crowds and I saw so many of them falling asleep, this asian bird was practically sleeping on my shoulder. As bad as this sounds I actually enjoyed it (the whole thing, not the asian bird sleeping on me). Following the mass we ventured into the city for lunch. After lunch I left the group (who were visiting art museums *shakes head*) to go on a little day excursion out of the country, more about this later. After my day trip I ran into the group again (although we lost a member but gained another two (2 guys, canadian and german) and went to a market and shared more beers and stories. Tomorrow I'm off to Budapest.
