hey..its now saturday 6th
arrived in freistadt in teh north ex Wien off 0840 train..well it left at 0853 as there was a security scare..an old lady had locked herself in loo whilst hubby was in a seat hoping i guess to pay only one fair..they eventually gave up and were escorted off by armed guards to sanitorium I guess.
Train trip was 3 hours with one change at........LINZ.....lovely trip thru countryside especially last hour as it climbed up about 1000m and then into valleys. Freistadt is at 562m. I got picked up from station by owner of guesthouse im staying at..they speak no english!..Lovely new place well set up. Got biek assembled and went for 18km ride on a triangle route to 2 villages..climbed up to 800m and back down to about 550m in 35 deghrees of heat. Went to resort golf course to have a look..great place..45 € for around..got souvenir ball.
Came back and showered hydrated and went into old town..its not much to look at but had some quaint bits..>Freisdtad is old historical town from 1300s..still with some old buildings from then and 1500s. Town square was were to be in Friday nites obviously...man doing bbq fish with skewer stuck thru em and beer..I took pics. Then had red wine and nice nut type bread stick standing under trees at tables in village square with others around. Then wandered around looking for okay place to eat..some had peeps in who had drunk more than they hade eaten..and not just yday either. >Eventually found nice place through house in garden and had pork, spud and salad..with a red wine again..cost 15€ so that was okay.
Had early nite..it was still 29 degree at 6pm.
Sats breakky was sheduled for 0830 so
Brekky was bread cheese salami and jams..nice...we negotiated via writing brekky for 0800 2moro as race is after 10am.
Then went and had coffee and marzipan cake at 10am in old town and wandered around taking pics..then checked out event centre which opens in 10mins so must away..temp is now 32 dehgrees and its only 1150am...
