Looking out the bus window on the road from Vienna to Salzburg
We left Vienna at 8am on Friday morning for a shorter bus trip this time, arriving in Salzburg at around 12:30pm. We took a bus to our hostel over on the Old Town side of Salzburg, right near Festungberg hill, where the Festung Hohensalzburg ("High Salzburg Fortress") sits. During the afternoon we took the funicular up the hill to look through the fortress and surrounds, and enjoy the amazing views across the town. Afterwards we head over to Getreidegasse, a busy shopping street in the Old Town, and one of the oldest streets in Salzburg. We had dinner here, at the "Café Mozart", then went back to our room at the hostel to catch the end of "The Sound of Music" - they play it every night at the same time on the hostel's internal TV station!

All the shop signs in Getreidegasse must by law be made of wrought iron - even McDonald's golden arches, which you can see over on the right.
