Swinging through the trees

Hi All,
Well yesterday K and I had the ultimate experience! We did a canopy tour which consisted of being strapped into a harness and swinging on zip lines very high up in the cloud forest from tree to tree. I somehow expected that we would end up with the last line dropping us gently to the ground but was horrified to learn that we had to rappel down the last 18 m. The entire experience was one of those terrifying but great times. We both felt overwhelming exhilaration when it was done along with relief that we had been able to do it (we of course were by far the oldest). In the afternoon we went to the volcano and walked around the rim of the crater and saw the stunning views from the top down towards Granada. You can check out the canopy tour at www.mombotours.com

Today after Klaus finished class we met Evi and Ivan (our new friends from Gibsons) for lunch and then we headed off to the famous artisans market in the nearby town of Masaya via Vivian Lougheed's chicken bus. We thought about taking a cab for $15 but the lure of the 60 cent bus fare called and we tried it...piece of cake...we enjoyed the artisans market, but even more so the regular everyday market.

We are continuing to enjoy our homestay. Everyone here is friendly and bend over backwards to help us. Today we had all our laundry done...washed and ironed...amazing.

Tuesday is our last day here. Wednesday we head to the beach on the pacific coast to the very touristy town of San Juan del Sur. We expect that it will be considerably more expensive just because it is so touristic. The costs will determine how long we spend there.

So, as you see, we are totally having a great time. Klaus is learning tons of Spanish at school and I am trying my best with the family at home. They have been teasing me non stop about being a escuala drop out. I am glad that I can provide such fun for them!
We are going to try to attach some pictures, look forward to any news from home.
F and K

You monkeys!
Swinging through the trees sounds wonderful! Rappeling down the incline sounds a little less wonderful. You are both amazing. Glad to here you are enjoying yourselves. Get rid of that headache. Heard from the contractor yesterday. The condo is painted, the cupboards and flooring are in, the appliances arrive next week. The inside will be complete by the time I'm in Gibsons at the end of February. Kathy
