Partly cloudy, rained overnight. As long as it keeps raining overnight we'll be happy campers! We arrived in St Lucia 8am. We had no plans today so a leisurely breakfast at 8:30 in time for a morning trivia When we get off the ship, we are going to check if the Buggy Man is around. Not the image of most children's (and a few adults) nightmares that traditionally lives under the bed, but the man who hires out four wheel vehicles that, with their off road capability, are able to satisfy the most hyper of adrenaline junkies!!! . Prior to the trip, as part of our research we spotted a company that hire out 4-wheel buggies. There is a 5 hour tour where you're in charge of the buggy but you are taken around the island ... read more

Dateline: St. Lucia, Eastern Caribbean Today we woke to the lush and beautifully tropical island of St. Lucia. St. Lucia is one of a string of volcanic islands, tropical and with (once you are out of the downtown area) beautiful beaches. We have docked in Castries, south of Rodney Bay and north of Marigot Bay. At the edges of town there are luxurious resorts and villas. The, rain forested, iconic twin mount peaks called the Pitons are just down the coast and include the worlds only “drive in” volcano-one can drive right up to it! Historians date the settlements on St. Lucia back to 200-400 BC from artifacts of the Arawak Indians. As with many islands here, the Caribe Indians arrived and took control from 800-100 AD. So, who really discovered St. Lucia? Some say Columbus ... read more

Docked early in Castries capital of St Lucia, another different island, very mountainous and approx 238 sq miles. Anyone looking for a woman here you could be in luck - 6 women to every man! The most famous landmark in St Lucia is the UNESCO site of the Pitons, two huge mountains on the edge of a bay that seem to rise straight out of the blue Caribbean waters. After we had been for a walk into the town we decided to book a catamaran, rather than a taxi, as the drive through all the mountains would take too long, and sailed down the lovely coast, passing beautiful beaches and fishing villages, lots of sheer cliffs and tropical vegetation. It was the best view of the Pitons from the boat, then we docked in the oldest ... read more

Up at 7.00am as we had arranged to meet another couple at 8.00am to share a taxi to Soufriere. The usual trip hustlers at the port, offering a variety of trips with different prices but eventually settled on a taxi trip to Soufriere (with Diamond International) , taking in a few fishing villages, the volcano and maybe a waterfall for US$40 each. A pleasant enough journey up the Morne Fortune mountain, past the colonial style, Governor Generals residence to a view point with marvellous views of Castries Harbour ! On to Cul-de-Sac Valley with its banana plantations before passing Marigot Bay, a palm fringed cove where the rainforest reaches right down to the waters edge. A quick stop and a wander at Anse La Raye and then onto Soufriere and views of the Pitons that are ... read more

Nov 1, 2011 St. Lucia 30 C and humid (africa hot) with rain bursts every few hours to make it bearable. For the size of this dinghy it is amazing at how smoothly they can bring it into port. After docking we met the tour bus (aka mountain excursion vehicle) and began a trek into the interior of this volcanic island. We stopped for some pictures on the way to the "volcano" which included Marigot Bay. Accosted at every stop by jewellery salesmen we still made it thru to get some decent pictures. The driver "Hillary" put this vehicle in places that amazed even me. We spent about 1/2 of the drive (5 hours) in first gear weaving around potholes, damaged roads (from former hurricanes and landslides), parked cars and pedestrians. Finally making it to the ... read more

St Lucia This is one island where we regret not having a longer stay for it is rightly labelled one of the prettiest in the Caribbean. We do not have the time to try out the treetop canopy adventure where you swing through the rainforest on zip lines including for those of a less adventurous disposition in a gondola. Instead we head for the beach taking a taxi from the port to Rodney beach. After all how can we have spend two weeks in the Caribbean without at least spending a few hours lying on a beach? Of course within an hour we are bored. The sea looks tempting and we are puzzled by the lack of people in it. That’s when we make the discovery of a two-foot shelf, result of hurricane damage, which ... read more

The Eastern Caribbean: 7 Islands in 7 Days May 16 - 22, 2010 Are you looking for a warm paradise island to escape to for awhile? With over 35 unique destinations, the Caribbean provides a wide variety of tropical isles for all kinds of vacationers, especially cruisers like us. We chose this particular cruise on Carnival because of its itinerary: seven islands in seven days, including several to which we had not yet traveled. On Sunday, May 16, we flew to our port of embarkation, San Juan, Puerto Rico, arriving around 8 p.m., and taxied from the airport to the cruise ship terminal. Check-in was quick and easy, as we were among the last guests to arrive before the 11 p.m. departure. The Carnival Victory is a huge ship with a capacity of 3500 passengers, and ... read more

Honeymoon is booked! After much thought and discussion we have finally booked our honeymoon. At first we were going to go to Hawaii for two weeks and use my parents timeshare. My FH didn't want to go to Hawaii because it's where everyone goes. He also wanted to do something that was all inclusive so we wouldn't have to worry about money while we were away, and with the timeshare only some are all inclusive. So after much discussion this past weekend we decided to do two weeks at Sandals St. Lucia. We will be staying at Sandals Grande St. Lucian on our honeymoon from July 25, 2010 til August 6, 2010. Our friends went their for their honeymoon back in 2007 and loved it! They said you were treated like "kings and queens!". We looked ... read more

Today we visited the island of St. Lucia. This island was much larger in population than the previouse islands 160,000. We didn't have any tours booked today, we decided to make it a beach day. We went to Rodney bay, it was really packed and not that brilliant, I didn't even take any pictures today. The highlight was getting to go tubing for free, the guy wanted to drum up some business so he offered us a free ride. We were the perfect group to hire, our friends on the beach said everytime we went around a corner or some bumps we would scream, then laugh and everyone would poke thier heads up. When we got back he had a line up of people wanting to go so I guess it worked! After the beach we ... read more
