Family
Together again The Blog........
As promised, our blog from paradise to make you green with envy for those who are in Washington freezing and slip sliding away while attempting to drive.
It’s been kind of a rough start with my Mom passing away on the 10th and flying to Panama on the 14th. My heart is heavy with sadness, but she is now at peace and no longer in pain. Thank you to everyone for your support and kind words. It was wonderful to be with family during this time.
We arrived in Panama in the evening of the 14th after an exhausting trip of travel from Ohio to Charlotte to Miami to here. I was impressed with Howard’s diligence on keeping track of his fishing poles creatively packed in a downspout until we hit Miami with less than two hours till departure. Panic set in, we threw our luggage on a cart and played dodge’em with the crowed from terminal “A” to concourse “D” and made it with 20 minutes to spare! The flight was over booked so that meant that everyone got on board, but not all the luggage. Howard’s bag decided to stay in Miami for an extra
beach
sand between the toes day and joined us later minus a few items; it is the giving season, right? The fishing poles will be reunited with us soon.
Our “casita” is located in Coronado, about 50 miles southwest of Panama City. We rented a car for the duration at the airport and when we drove away. The “Tourista Policia” chased us and pulled us over…..are you loco? We pleaded stupid and they bought it! Not knowing that they wanted to know where we were going, how long we planned on staying etc. Harry, the cop, felt sorry for us and escorted us around the city and pointed us in the right direction.
We’re settled in to our casita, an (almost) two bedroom home that is separate stand-alone dwelling from the owner’s main house that has a studio attached, then our house, the pool and another larger house that can accommodate six people. The owner’s are Canadian, the couple in the studio and the couple in the other house are also Canadian. Happy hour starts with a swim at 4:30! The owners have been here for two years and bought this place for 135k, such a deal, truly. Richard supervises a crew building houses and

surf and sand Howard picks his brain every chance he gets. Lise (not misspelled) maintains the rentals and keeps everyone happy. The roads to our casita remind us of our driveway at home only longer! The main roads here are perfect until you get to accustom to them, then you feel like your driving where an artillery barrage just happened. Then out of no where a perfectly flat concrete road. The best (sarcasm) road was an unfinished off-ramp, the concrete ended and dropped eight inches to red dirt then continues for 100 feet and there’s a twenty foot ditch, fifty feet wide, with no barrier, orange cones or anything to give the indication that it may be closed. There were tire tracks in the dirt all the way to the ditch before backing up (we think).
