Pictures say a thousand words……a feast for the eyes! For the last week of our trip we are staying in Panama city to explore places we haven’t seen or even knew they existed by stumbling onto them. All the city noises makes us urn for our little quiet town of Friday Harbor. Speaking of stumbling and talking your way into places, we went to the International Trade Show as buyers. They packed the convention center with over 1,600 purveyors from numerous countries like China, Korea, Brazil, Taiwan, Mexico, Cuba, Argentina, Columbia, Costa Rica and France. Every kind of business you can imagine, plus free food and drinks to sample! We’re going back today to buy a few samples and ask more questions. Yesterday ultimately made the whole trip worth every penny spent being here in ... read more

On 2/6 we had a delightful time. We went up to the mountain town of Boquete again and found a private home with an incredible garden that we could tour. It must have been an acre of the most manicured garden in Panama. There were six ponds with hundreds of Kio of every color. We wanted to go snorkeling, but the wind had been blowing so hard for the last three days the idea of being on the water didn’t sound like fun. After the garden, we found an animal rescue shelter that also had very nice gardens. But with monkeys, birds, parrots, an otter cat (not the technical name) that will grow up to be four feet long and two adorable Ocelot kittens. Rebecca spent an hour talking to a couple of Hiaasen McCaw’s and ... read more

So it’s been a few weeks as my sister affectionately reminded me…where in the hell are we????? We be in Panama mon! We took a vacation from our vacation home to travel the countryside. Before I tell you more about the places we have stayed I should explain the ratings that Howard has devised. He calls it the “asterisk ratings” kindda like the “five star ratings”. A * would be a place that we wouldn’t stay or same for an eating establishment, a ***** would be just below a one star rating. Got it? We headed south to Peninsula de Azuero looking for beaches, bays and sand. There is a fairly good size island called “Isla Iguana Wild Refuge” that was on the pricey side for a round trip and decided against it and just ... read more

Blog 3 Happy New Year everyone! We hope by now that ya’ll have thawed out and things are back to normal. Yesterday we took a ferry ride (something new hu?) to a small island called Taboga. It has a sweet little town with about two tiers of homes over looking the bay. They had several restaurants, a few hotels and a super mini-mart! The locals will rent (much needed) umbrellas for $5.00 for the day on the beach, beautiful, I might add (see pix). We took our snorkel gear, but the waters were churning up the sandy bottom so the visibility was poor and the only fish that we could see were puffers. We continue to scout out properties and to talk to everyone that can understand us. The English language is not spoken as much ... read more

Merry Christmas Gringos Amigos Boy, do we know when to get outta town! We have been keeping in tune with the happenings on SJI via emails and "The San Juan Islander" and it doesn't look like a good time to us! Although, the pictures are beautiful, have fun in ALL THAT SNOW. Our little complex where we are renting consist of the owners that are from Quebec and have been here for two and a half years, another couple also from Canada that just became Panamanians via "Pensionado Visa" plan and a couple from Brittan that are thinking of moving here and starting some kind of business. All eight of us have an entrepreneurial spirit so our brain storming sessions are informative and fun. This usually occurs at "happy hour" around 4:30 in and around the ... read more

The Blog........ As promised, our blog from paradise to make you green with envy for those who are in Washington freezing and slip sliding away while attempting to drive. It’s been kind of a rough start with my Mom passing away on the 10th and flying to Panama on the 14th. My heart is heavy with sadness, but she is now at peace and no longer in pain. Thank you to everyone for your support and kind words. It was wonderful to be with family during this time. We arrived in Panama in the evening of the 14th after an exhausting trip of travel from Ohio to Charlotte to Miami to here. I was impressed with Howard’s diligence on keeping track of his fishing poles creatively packed in a downspout until we hit Miami with less ... read more
