Schematics of the Playas around San Juan
Here is the layout of all the surf breaks in San Juan Last night I treated myself to a killer meal. To cap off an awesome day of surfing I dropped $20 at this beach side restuarant. It was perfect listen to the wave crash and watching the lighting storm in the horizon.
Now back home $20 may get you an entree and maybe one drink. Here in Nicaragua it will get you
- Shrimp Cerviche
- 2 pina colada
- 1 whole fish fish in white sauce and a bunch of shrimp
- salad
- soup
I spoke to some expats and they were saying that the average pay here is $2 for a day for 80% of the population but yet people here all have cell phones. I guess it is a status symbol he was explaining. People here would rather purchae a small TV then house insurance again a status thing.
When the night came I was sound asleep. Surfing 5 hours will do that to you.
The next morning I went to my favorite coffee shop once again to start the day. I notice they were pumping out all the water from the vacant space next to my hostel. For the past week
Fresh fish
They also add fries for some reason this giant hole has been a breeding ground for probably 90% of my mosquito bites. This giant breeding hole was like the death star probably responible for most of my bites. It has become a game now that every time I go by this death star I have to run to avoid the little bastards.
After some R&R I went to look for a transport for the beach. Transport usually cost $5 if you arrange it with a hostels that own a truck but it will set you back $25 if you hire a taxi.
Today the surf was pretty choppy but still no complaint being in the sun. I caught a couple of wave but I ate one serious one which dragged me down for a good 10 seconds. When I got up another one rocked me and pulled me down another 5. Normally I would not panic but I was tired from 3 hours of surfing and tried to reached for my board and it was just a few feet. I probably had about 3 seconds of breath left and managed to pull myself together and dive under from a 3rd wave. They say its the
Tomb Raider
I brought my camera this time to the beach. These are all the statues all around leading up to the hidden beach break 4th or 5th wave that rocks you consecutively that can kill you, according to this surf video I watched earlier. My advice is if the period is really short and there are 4-5 continuous heavy sets I would avoid going out.
The waves were unforgiving today. Alot of casualities. One guy broke his board in half. Another guy tore his shorts. And a 3rd guy got stung by a sting ray and his foot was swollen bad. I walked away with some bruises but it was still fun.
Again I surfed until sunset and as always I had the biggest perma grin. Coming back home was crazy...we almost hit a couple of kids and some cows crashed into this moterbike. No one was hurt but the bike was thrown to the side of the road like a rag doll.
There is this homeless guy sleeping in the middle of this Internet cafe and the owner is trying to get him to leave. It had taking 15 minutes and 3 other ladies with umbrella and brooms to get him to not sleep on the floor and leave. You gotta love Nicaragua.
Okay off to feast again..
