Granada sits on Lake Nicaragua- a huge lake
Hi Everybody!
Granada reminds me of Antigua even though it is not as modern. People here are very laid back. In the afternoon, they pull out their wicker chairs and rattan rockers. They sit in front of their apartments or homes on the sidewalk and visit with neighbors. The flowers, foliage, and birds are beautiful! I love sitting in our hotel courtyard and watching the birds fly in for food and water. I am not real fast getting their pictures.
A typical breakfast here consists of black beans, rice, salsa, scrambled egg, wheat toast, marmalade, juice, lots of fresh fruit, and coffee. It is very nourishing and stays with you.
This morning, we are heading for Costa Rica. We hope to spend a day or two on the beach. Then, we would like to go to a national park. It takes forever to get between two places. Our wish is that we can find a boat ride when we get to Costa Rica.
Take care,
Everette

Walt and I enjoy traveling to interesting places, meeting new friends, and sharing our adventures with others. I started this journal-blog when we made our extended trip to Asia in 2006. Writing the blog has gotten to be a habit. After this trip around the world, I am going to limit the blog to one per country. We hope you will keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.... full info

Breakfast sounds good..
Everette, It sounds like you are finally in a more relaxing spot. A friend of mine from school has a sister who is a nun living in Guatemala, and she said that often locals in Guatemala think that Americans come down to take their children. You and Walt are beyond brave!

Children in Guatemala
I knew that before I went there. In one case, I asked a mother if I could take a photo of her daughter. She was excited and wanted me to do so. The grandfather was very displeased and scowled at me. I showed the photo to the mom and then took one of the family. She loved getting to see the pictures. They have had riots in Guatemala where 500 people have gone after Americans were trying to kidnap local children. In one case, two men were fishing and just trying to be friendly with some children on the bank. We kept our distance from children and did not encourage them to hang around us.
