Small flights over the ocean are always fun
After Granada, I had decided to visit the Corn Islands in the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua.

The Corn Islands are about 70KM away from mainland Nicaragua and consist of two islands - Big Corn (10 Sq KM area) and Little Corn (2 Sq KM area). My plan was to stay in Little Corn only as it's more rustic and basic.

The journey from mainland Nicaragua to Corn Island can be done via a long bus and very long ferry or by a flight from Managua. Given the time involved, I decided to take the flight from Managua to Big Corn and then the ferry to Little Corn.

Corn Islands are well known for diving, snorkeling and the Caribbean vibe. These islands used to be under British control, so English is easily spoken and understood.

Little Corn, small as it is, has many nooks and corners to explore including walks through nice forested areas, one pristine beach with clear waters (there are other beaches but at the time I visited there were lot of sea weed out there, so I avoided swimming in those areas). Food wise, it was my best food experience in Nicaragua, simple fresh fish

dishes were my go-to options.

I loved exploring the beach, spent whole days just in the beach and snorkeling and the evenings enjoying a drink. I also found this lady who made amazing baked goods and sold from her home, so I went there every morning to get Banana Bread, Coconut Bread and her own favourite, the Cinnamon Bread.

I was staying in kind of a homestay and talking to the locals, it felt that while tourism and lobsters remained the heart of the economy, many youngsters are having to move to bigger towns in the mainland to find a stable career.

Corn island also has had some crime against tourists and hence it's important to stay safe and be street smart.

But to me it was this little paradise where you could spend a relaxed time.
