Twin beds aren't so bad. Geoff snuggled with me for a bit & then retreated to his own bed. Not quite as spacious as our king size at home.
For breakfast we had some coffee & some freshly baked muffins at the pastry shop below us. I am going to miss pastry shops at every turn. Yum.
We then spent the next hour running back & forth around town looking for an internet store (first hotel or hostel without wifi in awhile) to take care of our deposit for our island rental. We're renting an island in the Bay Islands all to ourselves for 2 nights. They were all booked up but had a cancellation so we snatched it. But, we have to put a deposit into a bank account & we found out her account doesn't accept Lempiras so we had to go get some dollars that we still have & it was a lot of walking back & forth. Pretty funny stuff. But now we're set & will be on our own private island March 1-3. Super stoked!
After that bit of work we headed to the bus terminal for our trip to Lago Yajoa. This
town has their buses all go to one terminal, which is useful & makes it a big terminal. We get a big bus today & it isn't crowded at all!! Yiipppee!!
Had to get a little buritto from the stand in front of the buses for the drive. The drive was beautiful & didn't take too long. We arrived in La Guama & changed buses to a mini-bus, again not crowded & headed to Pena Blanca, the town outside of where we're staying. In Pena we waited for the bus for awhile. This old crazy man came up to Geoff while he was eating a hot dog & asked him for it. He was right in his face & Geoff said he had all of 3 teeth. The guys next to us told us to ignore him & were telling him to go away but he really liked Geoff's hot dog. It was kind of funny to watch. Geoff & the guy only inches apart face to face & Geoff saying "no, it's my hot dog" without even backing away. I would have given in, he was so persistent. He gave up though when Geoff finished eating it.
We ended
up catching a tuk tuk to our hotel from a young guy with a mohawk & a star shaved into his hair. Our hotel is the D&D Brewery. It's owned by an Oregonian guy who brews his own beer on site. That's why we're here. Our room is the tiniest thing ever & does not have any personal space to it. The bed is on one side, the bathroom on the other without any doors involved. Yikes. Real close & personal. We tried one of his beers, best beer we've had since home, & headed out to see the Pulhapanzak Falls.
We took a cab out there since it's pretty far & was well worth the expense. The falls are beautiful & powerful. The mist they created from the water hitting the bottom was enough to soak us both in a couple of minutes when we got close. The park is huge & we were told is a place that the locals all visit on the weekends. It is clearly set up to accomodate a lot of people but being it was Thursday we had the place to ourselves. There were a couple of cute little monkeys in a
cage that we gave cookies. They were so stinking cute.
Back at the brewery we drank some very good beer. We sat out on the patio for hours & enjoyed the evening & the company & the food & of course the beer. Yummy. I think the Amber was our fav but the raspberry was good too. We met a British guy named Malcolm who leads bird watching tours for the brewery. He's an older guy who has spent his entire life traveling the world. He had some crazy stories & he definitely entertained us for the evening.
For dinner Geoff had an amazing salad & I had homemade broccoli soup with lots of garlic. So ridiculously good. And salad, how I miss salad.
We talked with a French Canadian family who had just come from Roatan & said it had been pouring so hard there that the main road had washed out to the sea. Yikes! That's where we're heading next...
Off to bed.
