Roses and Thorns

So last night was Kallie's last night in Honduras. She flies out this afternoon. We took my new car (more on that soon!) out for a joy ride and went to a couple of different bars for some celebratory drinks. During drinks, Kallie asked what our best and worst moments of the school-year were. At camp, we do this with our campers every night and call it "Roses and Thorns". We all went around the table and shared ours. Thought more about it this morning (when I couldn't get back to sleep) and thought I'd share...

My Thorns (I prefer to end with the rose)😊:

• The way things felt with Walter when I first got here in July... the uncertainty of what was happening and where things would end up
  
• The political crisis in Honduras... and everything that came along with it
  
• Being exposed more to the corrupt things that continue to happen (with nothing being down to stop it) in this country
  
• Missing my family a whole lot more this time... harder to be away from home
  
• The challenging class that I had in 4th grade and everything that came along with it
  
  
  My Roses:
  
• Walter's birthday party - seeing him so happy, our friends mingling, and knowing things were better between us
  
• "Fall Break '09" - when we had extra time off from school expectantly and 5 of us took a trip to Nicaragua... a great escape during a rough time in Honduras
  
• Christmas in Costa Rica - Mine and Walt's first real travel together
  
• Travel - being able to see so much this year - Nicaragua and Costa Rica were new countries I hadn't visited and can now check off the list... plus getting to dip into South America with upcoming trip to Peru
  
• The Musical - a HUGE endeavor to take on over 100 kids from grades 1-5, but also a HUGE success.
