Getting kitted up
HJT donning his scuba gear Utila lay at the end of a long, harrowing journey involving poorly maintained 1960's American school buses, extremely shady immigration officials and procedures at the Nicaragua-Honduras border, a couple of nights in less than desirable locations in Tegucigalpa and La Ceiba, and a one hour ferry ride across violent seas. Though it was only 370 odd kms between our origin and our destination, the trip took us over two days, such were the vagaries of the traveler's infrastructure in these parts. Having held my breath almost the entire way from Tegucigalpa to La Ceiba as the bus driver continually crossed over....
