Get Me My Snorkel
Today was a lazy day. We headed out to the beach and managed to snag chairs under one of the umbrellas. Which was good because I think I turned about 20 shades darker on my legs that were not covered. We did hit the water with snorkels and headed down the beach some. The beach really is so pretty and clear. The reef is not far off the shore either. I did manage to go out and check out the coral this time. Saw a puffer fish, some of those blue/green fish, and a red fish. A claims he saw a clown fish but I didn't see it on the camera shots. I bought him a waterproof bag one year for the camera so we got to try it out.
Taxi!
Took a water taxi down to West End to check it out. Went to a beach bar called Sundowners where all the locals seem to hang out. I had the pleasure of talking to a "captain" of a "water bar that is for sale" (see photo) and who looked like he was about 65 yrs old due to the
sun when he was probably about 50 tops. Made me wish I had reapplied my sunscreen earlier. Had a delicious pina colada and something called a monkey la-la. Hung out there for the sunset and threw a coconut for TC the bar dog. He loved getting it, and loved the water. When the bonfire started we got a
Lost Boys vibe and decided it was about time to head out. Oh yeah, and we bought 2 dvds, Prometheus and MIB III, all for $5, see if it was like that bargain I got in NY...
Dinner!
Decided to eat in the West End and picked a pasta place. I had some pasta shells stuffed with cheese and A ended up with a whole fish. The sauce on mine was interesting, had a slightly sweet taste, nutmeg maybe. After dinner we were too late to catch the water taxi (it gets pitch black at 8 and they don't run after that) back so we started walking down the main street. It is full of bars and open discotechs and a few shops. I would say the whole street is maybe about 0.75 mi long so we hit
the end and turned back. It had actually poured rain the night before and this street was just pure mud. "Cappy" had told me they were "paving paradise" earlier (and that lead to the Counting Crows song running through my head all night), but since they were just doing the curb right now it was a muddy mess.
Turn Out the Lights, the Party's Over
While walking to catch a cab all of the sudden all the lights went out, whole street was black and a moment of silence before the laughing and talking kicked back in. The lights, stayed off. The cab driver says it happens often and probably wouldn't come back on for a while. We did learn that our hotel had its own generator so we came home to the only lights on the island. We did watch Prometheus on the computer...it had middle eastern subtitles and skipped a part or 2, not quite the "very excellent quality" we paid for...
