Ballet Show
After being greeted by the lovelies "For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things presnt, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39
These verses are so beautiful, and I have also found them to be true. Sometimes, we just try to work for this love or we feel that we are not worthy of this love, but God really does love us. I sensed this to be so true as my friend and I took a few days to travel this week. We went to Flores in Northern Guatemala to visit the Mayan Ruins called Tikal, and then we spent a day relaxing on Rio Dulce in a beautiful hostel in the jungle. I had time to reflect on my time and work here, to read, to relax, to sleep, to lay in a hammock by the river. It was amazing. Seeing the ruins of Tikal was really interesting as they are all hidden by the jungle. It was really beautiful, and we stayed in Flores, a nearby city that is on
an island. It was really nice. We stayed at Finca Tatin on Rio Dulce.. only accessible by boat. It was so beautiful. We took kayaks out to watch the sunset and went for a night swim under the stars. Through all this creation, God tells us he loves us. The trip was a blessing for a time to reflect as I prepare to leave Xela and return to Ohio.
Last Friday, we went to the ballet show with the girls and had SO much fun. When we rounded the corner from getting off the bus and could finally see Caras, the waiting girls began to ran to us. They were so excited, and it was so great to be outside of Caras with them. They are such beautiful girls, and I'm thankful to be a part of their lives.
Hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving.. I'm sad that I won't be spending it with my family in the states, but I'm so thankful to have family around the world. When I first got here and was struggling a bit, I was reading through Luke. Verse 29 stuck out to me then, "Truly I tell you, there is
Tikal
Joya and I with one of the alters no one who las left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not get back very much more in this age, and in the age to come eternal life." I am blessed with family and loved ones in Xela, Guatemala and in the United States. How incredible!
We are planning to have a little Thanksgiving dinner Thursday night, but when talking with my Spanish teacher about buying turkey here, she said that I could probably find a live one at the market to kill.. haha. I don't think I'll be eating turkey this year!
HAPPY THANKGSIVING. I'm so thankful for your love and support!
