Hello again,
So on Thursday we were signed up for a tour with the bush master Ricky again. Myles had been really wanting to go to Manzanillo, and i had been really wanting to go to Punta Uva. So we set up a trip to do both in one day. They are very close together so it was a good plan. It was Cindy and Georges last day, so they just wanted to hangout at the house and relax, so it was just Myles and i. We met Ricky at the bus stop at 7am to catch the public bus outta town. Once we got on Ricky told us he had another couple of people we were going to meet at one of the stops on the way. Half way there these girls get on the bus, and one of them asks the bus driver, "is this the bus to the jungle" lol. They were our people. A little while later we arrived at Manazanillo. We all got out and decided we were hungry so Ricky took us to a local soda to get some grub. The place was called simply "the beach" in Spanish (la playa). Myles got pancakes
and i got a chicken sandwich. The pancakes looked really good and Myles said they were really yummy. Kinda like in the states but sweeter. My chicken was awesome. It was the first real fried chicken i have had since coming here, and in my opinion everything tastes better fried. Lol.
After breakfast we heading into the jungle. On the path Ricky told us about some of the local plants and their medicinal purposes. Its neat because he grew up here, so a lot of the things he was telling us are things that his mother and grandmother still use today. Once we finally got into the thicket of the forest we saw a lot of animals. We saw more sloths then we have ever seen in the wild. At one point Ricky picked up a big spider and started playing with it. He told us that the web is used today to make pullet proof vests. That's some strong stuff. When he was done telling us about it he made as all hold it. I was so freaked out, but i am glad i did it. Then Ricky showed us a fruit bat that has been hanging (literally)
around. I think bats are really neat so i was so stoked to see one up close and get to see it in its natural habitat. During our hike we also so a yellow eyelash viper, a black hawk, and some red poison dart frogs. One of the highlights for me was getting to see some howler monkeys in the wild. We got to play with the baby ones in captivity last week, but its not at all like watching them nimbly move from branch to branch in the tippie top of a tree.
Once the hike was over we headed back to the bus stop. On the bus the other girls headed back to Puerto Viejo, and we headed to Punta Uva. As soon as we got off the bus in Punt Uva, we saw a two fingered sloth climbing in someones front yard. We were able to get really close and i got some fun pics. Then, we headed down to the beach. Ricky led us to a trail the goes around the point. This was the first time in Costa Rica where i really felt like i was hiking in the deep jungle. All the plants
were trying to take over the trail and it was hard to see where we were going. And, it used to be a grave yard, so randomly we came upon a grave. But, this added to the excitement, and the view at the end was breathtaking. The path led right along the edge at some points, and i was kinda worried, but it was worth it to feel the ocean spray hit your face and see the amazing views. Once we got back onto solid land we went to find our taxi driver. Eventually he picked us up and we headed into Puerto Viejo. We went to a local soda for lunch, called Tamara Soda. The pieces of chicken there are great, so i ordered a chicken sandwich thinking that what it was would be. I was really disappointed to find that it was a chicken patty, like from the store. It wasn't bad, but its not what i was expecting. Myles got the chicken pieces and was really happy with his meal.
We grabbed another taxi and headed back to the cabina. Cindy and George got all of their souvenir shopping done, and went to the beach, so
they were relaxing at home when we got back. We all stayed at the cabina for a bit and then headed into town for dinner. We started off with drinks at Mojos and then took a taxi to a place called Jungle Love. The taxi ride was long and bumpy, but we all got there in one piece. Jungle love is situated on the edge of the jungle. It is an outdoor patio with a small kitchen. The ambiance there is really nice and it is really romantic. The owner was a nice women from San Francisco who settled in Puerto Viejo a couple of years ago. She personally served us and made sure we have everything we needed. I got chipotle chicken, Myles and George got a pizza, and Cindy got mango chicken. Everyone really enjoyed their food, and it was the perfect for a good send off. After dinner we headed home to relax some more. I tried to convince everyone to go out ("its Friday night"). But, because of the parents travel plans everyone thought it would be better to stay at home. So ends another great day in paradise.
