We’ve been asked about where we get our food here. There are several grocery stores in town of varying sizes. We have favorite stores for different things. There is also the central Mercado where we like to shop for meats once a week. The locals shop daily but it just isn’t for me. We buy enough meats, usually Mondays for the entire week. We buy our fruits and vegetables on Friday afternoons at the feria.
Ah, the feria…what a place as you can see from the pictures. We LOVE the feria, with its fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, fish, cheese, fresh sugarcane juice. On days Bill comes with me we usually spend between $7 to $10 on fruits and veggies, enough for the week as well as fresh flowers. When he doesn’t go Callista and I can get away with spending only spending $5 and getting a bouquet of flowers for both of us. I buy what we’ll eat. Bill gets excited and buys whatever looks neat and different. I usually end up feeding his strange purchases to the birds. Some of it ends up in mixed fruit smoothies and is better when mixed with other fruits than when alone.
Okay… too much writing for today. Callista is bored and I’m tired of sitting on my arc looking at the computer. Time to get out and LIVE!
Pura Vida,
Jen
