The resort that we own at is the Grand Caymanian Resort. It's the only timeshare condo type place on this particular area of the island (the North Sound). We have our own private dock. This morning, and tomorrow morning, this dock is the departure point for trips to the stingray sandbar at 8:00 am. This time means we're the first ones out to the sandbar in the morning, beating out hundreds of cruise ship passengers who mob the area all the rest of the day. I bring this up, because tomorrow, we're going out to see my darlings! The first year [View Full Entry]

12/31/08 - Another Beautiful day in Grand Cayman - Happy New Year’s Eve. Pretty much the typical “eat, go to the pool, eat, go to the beach, eat, go to the hammock” day today (one of those that doesn’t involve spending much money at all). While the young’uns were at the pool, I wandered around and took some more resort photos and video, found a couple of starfish out by the dock. DGS played “football” with another boy out on the rough sand for quite awhile. We tried to work up to snorkeling out toward the dock, but decided against it. [View Full Entry]

It rained, hard, last night. So we woke up to a wet and slightly colder place than usual. It's okay, though, even a cooler day here is better than most! Let's see, yesterday was a typical GC day. Eat, go to the pool, eat, go to the beach, eat, go to the hammock. Oh wait that's my mom's typical day. Well mine's about the same, honestly. We went to Georgetown yesterday and walked around "shopping" for a few hours. There were no cruise ships in town so it was nice and calm. Sam spent some of his money on a necklace, [View Full Entry]

12/30/08 - A slow day checking out more sites and beaches in Grand Cayman. Some hard rain in the early morning, and a cloudy start to the day, so we got off to a slow start this morning. Balcony too wet for sitting out for breakfast. Eventually gathered up and headed out on another exploration day in late morning, with packed lunch (more turkey sandwiches, and PBJ for DGS). We headed east again on the bypass, to avoid busy cruise ship day in town. Just went to look for the small golf course that is mentioned in one of the guide [View Full Entry]

Monday, 12/29/08 -- Shopping on non-cruise ship day on Grand Cayman. Typical day on Grand Cayman: Eat, go to pool; eat, go to beach; eat, go to hammock! That was yesterday; a little variety today - we went shopping, which is another very popular activity here. We don’t do the high end duty-free shopping however. Last night I forgot to include hammock time, which is one of my favorite times at this resort, even when it’s rather windy and chilly. Something about it is very enjoyable for me. Today we had our usual pool and ray time in the morning after [View Full Entry]

12/28/08, Sunday - At leisure in Grand Cayman. The resort has an intro program on Sunday morning at 9:30, with refreshments and activity vendors visiting. No cereal or muffins this year, just juice and coffee. There is more staff here than at the first place we stayed. There’s a lobby with a desk that is staffed until 11 p.m., some groundskeepers working throughout the day, an activities director, a restaurant and bar. The host this morning said he is the new manager, named Mike. Vendors included the on-site dive shop/tour arrangers, Pampered Ponies (horse rides), waverunner/ka [View Full Entry]

12/27/08 - Saturday, moving day - Okay, I’m a lush! I’ve decided that besides not having my cats here, my only complaint is the high price of liquor/beer/wine (North Carolina is not cheap for alcohol and this is worse). I’ve had to resort to what is “on sale” right now for Amsterdam beer at 99 cents CI 330 ml cans of beer that is worse than PBR. I miss my box of red wine (not available here) that’s 12.99 US or so for 5 liters. And there’s no “generic” hard alcohol either, and very little amber/dark beer. A 6-pack of pale [View Full Entry]

I'm sunburned today. I have spent the last week working on "the perfect tan" for the Swedish genes, and today those genes trumped my careful consideration. I know that it's not too bad, I'll be able to sleep tonight and it'll be better tomorrow, but it's still irritating. My one goal for this trip was to return home with a glowing tan....which I will have, but at what price?? This morning was the welcome coffee & juice (no longer breakfast) at the resort. Once again, Sam got to be Iguana Boy extraordinaire. He loves that! And finally Gilbert does seem to [View Full Entry]

We spent yesterday (Christmas Day) at the resort. Got up at our usual early time, opened presents, got the turkey cooking...and headed to the beach for some fun. The turkey was my idea. Mom made one last month but she used nasty store bought stuffing mix that she'd had taking up space in her cupboard for years (not kidding). Since our traditional family stuffing recipe is simple, and delicious, I decided cooking a turkey here was going to happen. Plus we can eat the leftovers in sandwiches fairly easily. So I went to town on an eighteen pounder; it took almost [View Full Entry]
