Day 3: Sunday chez Cousin D. My cousin D lives in Grand Cayman and is a Cayman citizen, lucky him! He's the reason we are all here. I have something to learn from him... So my friends ask yourself, what's keeping you from living your big dreams? So I went to church...pentecostal, in a sea of beautiful dark faces all dressed in their sunday best like you would do for church on easter sunday. Little boys not even school age in pressed shirts & ties. Little girls in organza dresses & ribbons in their hair. An alter decorated with big red [View Full Entry]

Welcome to our blog! Ahead of our little trip of three new continents we've deicided to actually start this given that we can barely contain our excitement anymore! We're still living and working in the Cayman Islands and won't leave here for another 67 days, there's many things to do before then, but for those of you who don't know our little plans they're something like this: 22 July 2009 - Leave the Cayman Islands 1 August 2009 - Fly to Kenya to join our trip... 3 August 2009 - 15 October 2009 Start our trip from Kenya to South Africa, [View Full Entry]

Today was the last port day with Mel and Jess and we were in Grand Cayman. In my opinion, the site to see in Grand Cayman is stingray city where you can snorkel with the stingrays and Mel and Jess agreed with my suggestion. We did a combo tour where we got to go snorkeling along the coral reef and then with the rays. While I've been out with the stingrays probably about a half dozen times, this specific tour and the snorkel spot was new for me, so that was nice. WOW. The snorkeling along the reef was incredible. Definitely [View Full Entry]

We overslept. That is how our day started in Grand Cayman. We had hoped to possibly go snorkeling before we were to meet everyone in our Shazam group at Senor Frogs for a big West Coast Swing dance party, instead, we had enough time to walk around town for a little while before heading over for music and dancing. What little we saw of Grand Cayman was just a standard port town. Fully content with all we'd accomplished at the other ports, it was nice to just kick back and have a few drinks and dance with everyone in a change [View Full Entry]

Pirate Ship???

Ginny is still here cruising with me (oh, and we did luck out with a guest cabin and dining room table again this cruise!!) and today we’re in Grand Cayman. I think the best thing to see in Grand Cayman is Stingray City, so I’d recommended it to Gin and she was all for it. She also wanted to do some snorkeling during her time down here, so we did a combination tour today. We were bused across the island to board our motor boat that took us out into the sea. We stopped at three different snorkel spots today. We [View Full Entry]

Well after a disappointing announcement this morning (our para sailing was canceled due to high winds) we decided to stay aboard ship. With most of the guests on shore we had the pools, decks, food all to ourselves. The day was mostly sunny so took advantage of some time to sit in the sunshine. We all have a bit of a burn, not to much. We will check with the excursion desk to see if we can reschedule the para sailing once we get to Cozumel. Paul, Ed and I had some fun on the water slide (salt water). We will [View Full Entry]

Tortuga Ho! The last two days had been rather pleasant aboard with not too much rolling of the ship and calmer seas but last night there was much more motion and as we approached the island they seemed to be firing the bow thrusters with the effect of jerking the ship around. So despite a late night we both woke up feeling a bit dehydrated around 7:45AM, much too early for a vacation. As Jennifer got ready, I saw we were approaching land so I jetted for the bow which was still as howlingly windy as it had been the night [View Full Entry]

1/2/09 - Friday - our last day, sigh. (And getting home). Have kind of fizzled out today. Kind of stiff and sore from jet ski ride yesterday, so just relaxing around the resort and thinking about packing. DD and DGS have been out and about running errands and doing some last minute shopping. I got in some hammock time and sun time by the pool. DGS had a little football and pool time. It’s a little cloudy and the effort of packing up and going to the beach, then hauling everything back and cleaning up is almost sounding like work at [View Full Entry]

1/1/09 - My New Year’s Resolution is to never ride a jet ski again! Well, maybe not “never again” but certainly only if I am in control of it, and am not on any kind of a schedule to get somewhere and back. We had thought about doing the waverunner trip to the Stingray Sandbar because it sounded fun, and something we haven’t done before, but had second thoughts and put our name on the list for the early morning boat (we thought). Turned out with it being New Year’s Day, the boat wasn’t going out til later, so we opted [View Full Entry]
