Stepping off the boat and into Disneyland.
We had a great sail from the Berry Islands to Nassau, traveling 9 knots in 15-20 knots of wind, very fun! Of course we were healed over, with the rail almost in the water, and some of our belonging shifted during the trip, but it was worth it. It was a thrill to sail the Rum Runner, she is such a fast and responsive boat. And we got into Nassau in great time.

We decided to stay in the mega-resort Atlantis for a couple of days. And let me tell you, that place is amazing! It is like stepping of our boat and into Disneyland. Not only does it have a beautiful beach, a water park with multiple slides and pools, crazy shopping, and a casino, but it also has the world’s largest aquarium. We spent the first day just walking around getting a feel for the place, had a couple tasty pina-coladas, and went to most of the aquariums- including the plexi-glass tunnel thru the shark tank. Very cool!

The next day we woke up early in order to see it all. After having our starbucks coffee and jamba juice for breakfast, we went to the water park.

Jay at the aquarium, watch out for that shark!
We started with the lazy river, which is an inter-tube ride that goes around a good portion of the park. And then it was off to the Mayan temple, which is where they have multiple water slides all starting at the top of the temple. The first one we did was the serpent, which is where you ride an inter-tube thru a dark tunnel that suddenly opens up into a plexi-glass tube thru the shark tank- pretty amazing! So here we are, floating along in our inter-tube watching the sharks swim above and below us. It was by far our favorite water slide and we did it twice. Then we did the racing slides, which are two identical slides next to each other, where we got to race each other. And Jay would like me to tell you that he dominated the race slides- which in fact, he did. The last slide we did was the leap of faith, which is where you drop free-fall for 30 feet before plunging into the water below. I was terrified, but was reassured that the whole ride only lasts 3 seconds, so I did it. Whew- what a thrill! And then there were

other smaller slides strewn around the water park and pools, like the jungle slide and goombay smash that we did while walking around from pool to pool. We had a great day.

That night we decided to finish our Atlantis experience by spending a night out on the town (in the hotel). We started off at the Atlantis movie theatre and watched our first movie on the big screen in over a year. We saw The Illusionist and loved it. After the movie we went to dinner at Nobu and had amazing sushi. With its New York City reputation, we were not disappointed. In fact we had the best tuna rolls we have ever had in our lives, including our trips to Japan. Yum! Of course a night at Atlantis would not be complete without a stop at the casino, so we tried our luck. Unfortunately we didn’t win big, but we had a fun night and minimal losses. Not like the 5 cent slot machines pay big anyways. All in all it was a full day at Atlantis; we loved it and had a great time.
