Day 17 - A Day of Trains Wednesday was a bit of a later start, but I was still at the station, in the gloomy Bremen morning weather, by 9.30, with an hour to wait for my train. The train on the same route before mine was 15 minutes late, which spelled bad news for me, so I checked out my back-up options in case I couldn't make the 7 minute connection in Münster. My train was 9 minutes late, but thankfully I managed to make up the time running between platforms in Münster! Crossing the border over to Enschede in [View Full Entry]

End of Day 14 I had a shower and everything to feel fresh, checked the weather on the internet (not looking great) and then returned to my room, where I met a German guy Toby. I sat and read and went off to sleep! Day 15 - Hamburgers Up early again, I had breakfast with the English guy and a German lady, who was organising a volunteering camp. I then walked to catch the tram (without a ticket, thanks to the broken coin-operated machine) and then had a nice wait for the train to Hamburg - a fast train again taking [View Full Entry]

Day 13 - Dortmund: The Shopping City Perhaps an unlucky day? The previous night, although I went to bed at 10, some of the others in the room (the two Irish gus) must have come in after midnight. As a result of that, the hot weather, and a snoring German, on Saturday I just wanted to sleep, so I stayed in bed 'til 9, missing breakfast, and then rushing to check out by 9.30. The train to Dortmund was packed, so I sat on the floor (probably still more comfortable than National Express!!) for the hour and a half journey. In [View Full Entry]

Ok, so it seems that Köln has the same computer terminals as Bonn, but never mind! Day 9 - To Koblenz After getting to Frankfurt station about an hour before my train was due to go, I happily boarded. At 11.23, a 20 minute delay was announced, so i waited, and 10 minutes later the driver told us that unfortunately the train wasn't going and we had to get off - some problem with the pulling carriage/engine or whatever it's called. The choice of food whilst waiting in the station was limited, so I went for good old Maccy D's. Another [View Full Entry]

Hello! This was written from Frankfurt, but I'm typing it up from Bonn! The keyboard isn't great and i can only open one window... After my last entry on day five, I got a bit tipsy on spirit and beer, but just managed to get myself to bed without falling over!!! Day 6 - Jelly & Gerkin's House Saturday was my most action packed day so far. Gilly and Joachim took me to a gorge place on the edges of the lake, before going to Konstanz for a leisurely stroll around the town. Then we got the car ferry across the [View Full Entry]

Bratislava
Bratislava
A rather Slovakian-looking building.
Hello again! I'm now in at my friend's in Wahlwies (near Stockach, next to Lake Constance), after a five hour journey through the Bavarian countryside from Munich. Day 4: Munich (München) After a bit of a lie in in Salzburg, I got the lunchtime train to Munich. The countryside there is mainly just fields, but still looks really lovely. Arriving in Munich shortly after 1pm, I dumped my pack in the hotel foyer and headed for the city centre. I found the underground streets rather fascinating, as this "shopping street" runs from the main station to the next station down, and [View Full Entry]

Hello! And so now I'm at the end of the third day of my trip. I'll give a little outline of where I've been so far. Day 1:Bratislava On Monday I headed out from Luton airport to the capital of Slovakia - Bratislava. Although the country itself is one of the poorest in Europe (the 17th poorest EU country), the capital isn't lacking money. I thought perhaps this was thanks to to the tourism, and it's true that Bratislava has it's share of international tourists, but that alone would not result in such a vibrant and successful public transport system, upon [View Full Entry]

With a week until I leave to catch my flight to Bratislava, I'm now making the final preparations for my journey. I've booked the hotels, got all the rail tickets I need, and now find myself with no (British) money. I have maps of most places, and thankfully half of the hostels/hotels are central in the cities and won't take much finding, but when they do, I'll be ready with a whole folder full of maps! .. ok, so taking a folder might not be the wisest idea in the world, but it keeps things organised! The countdown until my flight [View Full Entry]
