[Sorry for the infrequent blogs, the electricity/internet capabilities of the islands are limited. I'll also apologize in advance for any strange things said in this entry - post full-moon party debauchery and my head is not yet right.] After leaving Chiang Mai we went off to Ayuthaya, a city famous for its ruins (it was the capital of Thailand until the... 13th? century) to geek out a little, considering our academic backgrounds we were pretty excited. However, as a whole, Ayuthaya proved to be a bigger nuisance than anything else. Firstly, our songthaw driver didn't take us to our request [View Full Entry]

Maybe it's the fact that the air is a little fresher, or that the mountains feature prominently, that the greenery and lushness of the countryside creep into the city s [View Full Entry]

Currently sitting in a wonderfully cool (air-conditioning is a god-send) internet cafe attached to my guesthouse in Bangkok, Shanti Lodge, rightfully called an "oasis" in Bangkok... but I'm getting ahead of myself. I arrived bleary-eyed in Singapore after a long day in transit, and was ushered from the airport to the free hotel, which, although not the nicest I've been in, was definately the last bit of luxury I'll have for a while (I had a whole double bed to myself! A shower! A sit-down toilet!). Singapore itself was at once exactly what I expected (modern, almost [View Full Entry]

Only 38 days til I set off for Thailand (via Singapore), to meet Bert (Alicia) in the bedlam of Khao San Road and start the trip that's been making up the bulk of my thoughts for the last three months. The tentative itinerary is to spend a month in Thailand, two weeks in Cambodia, a month in Vietnam, and then a little over a month in India, after which Bert goes back to Poland and I have some decisions to make... either stay in India for a couple more months, heading to the south, or return to Thailand for a few [View Full Entry]
