OK, so again I've been very bad at keeping my blog up to date but I've been moving about so much it's difficult to find the time so I am m0oving into sumary mode if only to get into the next continent!. Anyhow. After I left Nelly and Paul in Melbourne I booked a two day tour of the Great Ocean Road which would drop me off in Adelaide. I think it would be better to generally have another day to see the Great Ocean Road but I was anxious to get to Adelaide to see Elaine as she had to leave on a work conference that week too. I booked with the Wildlife company which meant the first day we covered pretty much all of the Great Ocean Road (it was a long day) and ... read more
I've got a bit behind with my blog quite obviously as I've been too busy somehow - it's funny because I'm trying to enjoy every place while I'm there but there's always the next place to be reading up about/planning for so it's a fine balance. I am now in Dallas airport where I though I would get my blog completely up to date as have almost 5 hours wait between connecting flights as I was erring on the side of caution in case of any delays, but this did mean getting up at 3.30 this morning after only 4 hours sleep, so I ended up sleeping for 3 and a half hours in a chair in the airport lounge so I may only get Australia finished and not get onto the US today, but ... read more
The last two weeks have been a bit of a whirlind of moving every few days, so not had much time to update this but have done a lot in that space of time so will try and upload a few photos too. ALex very kindly drove me to Hervey Bay, where I stayed in Next Backpackers which was an OK hostel for the night before I left for Fraser Island the next morning.I signed up for the Cool Dingo 3 day tour of Fraser Island and it was fantastic - great tour guide (Hayden, slightly mad I think in the best way, very funny) good group of people and the most beautiful island which is entirely made of sand - it was amazing. We swam in three freshwater lakes, in Eli creek crossed the sand ... read more
Been in Brisbane since Wednesday morning and done so much in a few days due to my fabulous hosts Janet and Alex. Arrived on Wednesday morning at half seven after very little sleep on my overnight flight due to a screaming child behind me and being excited about arriving in Australia, but after breakfast and a shower was raring to go. We headed North to the Sunshine Coast, shopping at Edmundi markets where I launched into the Aussie dollar by buying several (probably)non essential items such as a sarong for the beach. Then we went to Noosa which I really liked - a very chilled out surfing town with a great beach. Went for my first swim in the sea in a very long time which was ace - big waves, lots of fun, but the ... read more
Singapore was interesting - not someplace I chose to go necessarily as it was more of a requirement for the stopover to Oz, but glad I stopped for a few days as it's a different place - such a mixture of different cultures, religions and cultures to create somewhere really unique. I loved staying in little India as it was a cool part of the city. The food is amazing - sampled as much as I could of course, but my appetite is smaller than when at home due to the heat and humidity. Was very odd staying in a hostel for the first time - I'm sure I will get used to it over the coming months, but am loving the BA lounge at Singapore airport for my own personal shower and complimentary glass of ... read more
Landed today in the rather stifling heat of Singapore - not used to this temperature - my face resembles a a very shiny tomato! But I did have a fabulous dinner for less than 2 quid served in a scooped out pineapple - pity the beer cost more than the food! Will get some snaps taken tomorrow on my first full day sightseeing - off to combat the jet lag with my first sleep in a hostel dorm - I just keep feeling I'm at T in the Park living out my rucksack so far - it'll be a rather long festival.... xx... read more
