Abcde and I were up early and had breakfast. The TVs were all tuned to the news stations and it seems that there had been a chemical attack in Syria. I am unsure what to think about that other than it is a terrible occurrence, there is not really anything I can do to change their situation, nor do I think we should become overly involved as a nation. That's it for politics for today. On to the important stuff I have some control over, getting wife moving and start the fest! Abs and I went back upstairs after about an hour of trying to feed her and woke Wife. She came back down with us and it was attempt #2 to feed the monkey. Slightly more successful, I touched base with las Mujeres Vieja and ... read more

We blew into New Orleans at about 4pm. There had been only a bit of rain and wind during the drive and we had enjoyed a great view of Lake Ponchitrain as we entered the city. Tyler and I started to unpack the car and then I ran in to get our keys. The vieja mujeres about drove Tyler crazy asking him to get their stuff right away and Joyce trying to pull her walker out of the cargo bag before it had even been fully unzipped. By the time I had us checked in every thing was on a cart for the bellman to take up and Tyler was pretty well red in the face. Tyler and I hustled off to get him checked into his room at the Hampton Inn Convention Center and he ... read more

When we had checked in shortly after 1 am the guy at the desk told me that there was one heck of a storm due in a couple of hours and would likely last until noon the next day. It was headed north from New Orleans so at least once it passed we would have seen the last of it. When we woke up it was still raining a bit but not badly and I had hopes of getting quickly on the road and arrive before 3pm in New Orleans. Caroline and Tyler tell me that there was much thunder and lightning as the storm came through last night but I slept through it all. Driving on 3-4 hours of sleep will do that, plus I am know to sleep like the snoring dead. Abs fought ... read more

We made reasonable time to Nashville and stopped as always for dinner at Prince's Hot Chicken Shack. As we walked in I thought we were in luck, there was no line and we walked right up and ordered. Tyler and I split a Medium spice half chicken, Caroline had a Mild breast as did Joyce and Vallery got her breast unseasoned. As we located a table to sit and wait for our food to come out I recognized the family in line behind us. It was Todd and Shonda, the Chi Alpha pastors who had lived 2 doors down from my parents when I was in high school. I introduced them to Caroline and Abcde and chatted with them for a little while. Then Abcde wanted to run around so I escorted her up and down ... read more

New crew for the French Quarter Festival. Returning from last year are Caroline, Abcde, and Tyler, we are also now joined by my neighbor Vallery and her friend Joyce. Our luggage includes 6 carry on suitcases, 2 coolers, 4 collapsible chairs, Joyce's walker and Abcde's 2nd most compact stroller, my CPAP and Caroline's backpack (which is playing the part of diaper bag/ Mary Poppins purse). Needless to say, we are blessed to have the Ridgeline Saddlebag available to use to tote some of this stuff outside the car cause sure as heck it wasn't all going to fit inside. Vallery, Joyce, Tyler and I also had small Go-Bags with our toiletries and a change of clothes so that at the overnight, not all the bags would have to leave the car. Caroline drove her car to ... read more

Breakfast was an event. Poppop made an entire box of pancakes and during the hour he cooked them George and Georgia kept eating them fresh out of the pan. There was also maple turkey sausage links, a pound or 2 of bacon, and 7 potatoes worth of home fries. We ate really well. Before the meal Poppop read the Christmas story out of the book of Luke and after breakfast tried to show the kids a movie called The First Christmas, which supposedly had funny moments to go with the never ending singing. I was not upset when it was decided to go to the beach after 20 minutes with 2/3s of the movie remaining. We beached for a little while and then swam in the outdoor pool spitting distance from the waves. Just after noon ... read more

George and Georgia were up at 5:30am. Thank goodness they were in a different room because Wife and I were able to sleep till 8am. After breakfast all the kids went down for naps because this afternoon we were going looking for dolphins. Wife went shopping and I stayed with Abs as she slept. At 1:15 we piled into the vans and were off to harbor town. While Poppop bought tickets everyone else went to the playground. Just before 2 we boarded the Vagabond, a 125 passenger tour boat and went chasing dolphins. Even though Jeff had lowered our expectations the day before saying that this was not the best time of year for dolphin watching, we were soon seeing a mother and calf surfacing off the port side. It was good that we were on ... read more

French toast for breakfast and Abcde was back asleep by 9:30. After a short nap we went for a bike ride until Georgia got fussy. After parking the bikes at the hotel we wandered down to the beach. My legs have been sore since the group bike ride 2 days earlier and walking in soft sand did me in. I went to the Oceanside bar with Abcde and ordered a beer while waiting for everyone else to tire of sand and surf. Erin and Mom went shopping while Wife and I went to visit with her host father who is also the minister who married us in 2013. Jeff and Sue took us out for a wonderful dinner at Posiden. Abcde behaved wonderfully as we feasted on shrimp and grits, low country jambalaya, ribs and scallops. ... read more

The day started with a pathetic continental breakfast and Gary Mauer the ought not to quit his day job magician provided by the resort. On the upside: free mimosas and bloody Mary's. Abs and I swam again and even Wife got in the water. Back in the room Wife took her weekly long shower to wash her hair. (She does bathe daily, just doesn't wash her fro) Thanks to the multi headed shower Abcde and I were able to cycle through at the same time. Lunch was ready when the bathing was done so turkey sandwiches were eaten and Abcde went down for a nap while Poppop and I ran to the grocery. Upon our return Poppop and Gamma had an obligation to the time share people as the had already accepted $200 of gift certificates ... read more

Up fairly early, breakfast was just bagels, yogurt, and oatmeal. Erik's children, George and Georgia, ate like little monsters, 2 yogurts, 2 bagels, and an oatmeal each and they were still hungry. After breakfast we all went to the pool and Abcde got to swim for the first time. She really enjoyed it. Lunch was BLTs and pork loin sandwiches at around 11am finished in time for our community bike ride. Wife conquered her fear of the tandem and we were flying by the end of the ride even though she still has her issues with bicycle saddles hurting her bum. Dinner was my job today and I had brought a turkey with us and with a little help we had turkey dinner with all the fixings. George and Georgia were fussy at meals end and ... read more
