Is Kevin getting a lot of good luck red packets for Tet from his grandparents, uncles & aunties? The big grapefruit is amazing. Is it for decoration or can you eat it? How's the taste?
Good luck! Good luck in the Year of the Goat and in the year of driving. Driving is so scary when you first learn or when there is a lot of traffic. I learned to drive in my small town, and was so scared when I drove in a big city. I can't imagine driving in Hanoi--you were very brave. I think after that, you can drive with confidence anywhere in the world. Happy New Year with your family!
Driving lessons It depends. Some people need 10 lessons, others may need 15 until they can drive well on the streets. However, for driving test you only need to go around driving course with very basic requirements.
Happy new year You're so brave to try driving in Hanoi. It does sound as if you get to see a lot more though. Happy New Year and all the best for the year of the sheep, or goat.
Chúc Mừng Năm Mớ Good luck with your driving lessons, driving in Hanoi would be a real challenge. I have been driving for more than 30 years and I don't think I would be as brave as you. Have a great year of the goat - take care
Happy Tet Dear Hong Ha,
Wishing you & family a very happy Tet.
I am making thit heo quay (crispy roast pork). Well it turned out to be very successful, except the skin didn't crack as much as I expected. My father enjoyed the meat very much. Now just finished dinner & I am making some cookies later. Until I hear from you again, have an enjoyable time with the family.
Beautiful photographs. Hello Ha. I haven't had time as yet to read all blogs but the photographs are simply stunning.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful blog site with me.
Congratulations I remember learning about that victory in my French class at high school (although I suppose they thought it was a defeat but it always seemed right to me). It's great to see photos of that day and hear about someone who was there. Was your mother from Hanoi? You made Hanoi seem so exciting for the celebrations, i wished I was there.
Nice little place for family retreat & nice little shops for shopping. Your nephew & niece are growing up fast. Your nephew is growing taller than your father :)
Still love your posts Hey, just wanted to say I still love your posts. I love travelling and wish will do so sooner. Keep travelling. Nothing is comforting than travelling all around.
Hi Hong Ha,
This year I made moon cakes in the shape of Mickey Mouse & Minnie Mouse. My elder niece loved them. As for lanterns, the kids seem to favour iPad as compare to the traditional shaped lanterns :)
Beautiful village These villages are really beautiful and your photos show so much of what the village is like. It's great these crafts still exist and I do hope Unesco will recognise them. Thanks Ha for another insight into a part of Vietnam that is not well known.
Great photos I was disappointed that I missed seeing Ho Chi Minh's village last time I was travelling in the area so it's great to see these photos. I have been to his houses in Hue and in the village in the countryside near Hue and they are similar. Thanks Ha. I hope you have settled back after your long trip to Australia and New Zealand.
I am a Hanoi_girl who loves to travel. When working for a Japanese construction company in Hanoi, I had the chance to travel to 28 countries and to all the 63 provinces in Vietnam, including 25 trips to Huế city. Egypt, Mongolia and Italy are my love, and other favorite countries are Australia, France, New Zealand, Nepal, Fiji, Japan, India, Indonesia, Belgium, Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, China (8 trips, 15 cities), South Korea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Cambodia (3 trips), Brunei Darussalam, the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Laos (3 trips), Malaysia (4 trips), Singap... full info

Great holiday
It sounds like a good place to stay, especially the view from your hotel. Thanks for the blog.
