Just Call Me Your Tour Guide

I have to eat my own words - they are not very tasty either. Last fall, I took my mother to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons for some hiking and she proved to be more than I had bargained for. She made a last minute doctor appointment, had some health issues through out the trip, almost missed her flight, left her luggage, was and still is a difficult person to shop with/for, almost fell down the canyon and was a bit of a liability (details of that trip are described in my blog for Sept 2013 trip). I said then that I was not taking her anywhere again and I needed a new hiking partner. Well, here I am one year later and about to venture back to the west - with my mother. How did I get myself into this? Well, my uncle also took a trip out west last year and loved the scenery, though he did not really venture any further than his truck would take him. He had never really traveled and just doesn't know how (no reservations, no itinerary, no planning, no idea what he is missing). He wanted to go back and asked if my mother and I would go with them (he and his girlfriend) and be their tour guide. How could I pass up a hiking trip to the National parks in Wyoming? I couldn't. So, I have planned the trip - booked flights, booked all sleeping arrangements, planned hikes and stops, created an itinerary - the whole nine yards. I am the trip planner, I am the tour guide. My requirements were that they get in shape for hiking and do not plan on sleeping late. You can not go to Yellowstone or the Tetons and expect to see things through the window - you have to get out and put yourself on the trails, and early mornings are a wonderful time - most peaceful, uncrowded, best time of the day. So, they agreed. They have walked every day in preparations for hiking some great trails and I have planned our entire trip. If this goes well, I will be accepting new applicants who also need their trip planned. Just call me your tour guide.
