To celebrate 中秋节 (Mid-Autumn Festival), and the resulting three-day weekend, I tried to visit some potentially interesting caves near a village called 九乡 (Jiu Xiang). Rebecca, Erin and I went to the main bus station in the morning, thinking there would be a bus to 九乡. Only one word to describe that experience: awful. Saying no to the taxi drivers hanging around there was like trying to wave off a swarm of flies on a hot, summer day. We were constantly saying, “No, I don’t want to go to Dali/Lijiang.” A fraction of second later, someone else would be offering us a ride to those places.
