Hi from Mcleod Ganj, which is just a few k north of Dharamsala, current residence of the Dalai Lama. Pretty cool place to be considering the celebrations around the recent US Congressional gold medal he was awarded yesterday. The celebrations here have been pretty cool...shame a lot of it was broadcast here in Tibettan so I didn't understand a huge amount! The free tibet thing is very big here as many Tibettans have fled Tibet to come here and other places in Himachal Pradesh. This is my last day in Manali before heading to Dharamsala on the overnight bus tonight. Yep, my bum has just about recovered from the last endurance test so its back on the road again!! Made it here in one peice, even got on the right plane without any hitches this time! he he:O) The plane journey was pretty long aswe stopped in Istanbul for a few hours midway, but it went really quickly n was in Delhi before I knew it. Ipods are a wonderful thing! :O) Had arranged a pickup from the airport whichwas pretty good - I was pretty glad tosee a sign there with my name on as it was really late and didnt fancy taking a chance with a hotel. Well, now back in Rome once again! I'm having a very relaxed day today - I pick up my visa today at 5pm and I've seen most things here so I don't feel like doing too much! Just catching up on the net and taking it easy. My flight to India (Delhi) is tomorrow morning at 11.30 so that's pretty good. It worked out around £450 to fly with Turkish airlines (I know sounds a bit dodgy! :O/ ). The flight leaves at a reasonable time but it arrives at 2.30 in the morning over there. Still having a fab time here! After leaving Lucca, I went to Cinqaterre on the train as planned, but when I got there it was raining! Couldn't believe it, there has been very little rain (virtually none in fact) since I've been here. Apparently it's beautiful in Cinqa Terre when the weather's good. It was heaving with tourists as well - not so good! I got off the train and got back on again 10 minutes later! Decided to head up to Parma instea. CinqaTerre is 'walking country'. Spent a couple of nights in Lucca. I really like it here. The old town still has the walls right the way round it, and it seems like they really keep out the hectic bustle of modern life. Went for a walk around the top of the wall yesterday and its amazing the difference between inside n out. Outside seems like any modern town, traffic, noise etc, and inside is completely the opposite. V little traffce, cobbled streets, much more relaxed! Hello! I think the last entry was down in Cagliari, Sardinia. I stayed there for one night - it was pretty good. Found a really good internet cafe where you could get a beer and an hour online for less than 5 euros, AND I found a chinese takeaway! I've really fancied an indian or a chinese since I've been away (takeaway that is!). I think i had the equivalent of Chow Mein and Chicken in Black bean sauce. mmm :O) Spent the next day there sightseeing...walked for miles! Hey! Here I am down in sunny Cagliari. I guess this is like the capital of Sardinia. It's really wierd having travelled down through Sardinia seeing just small villages in vast areas of open country, to come across a real big city! Spent 5 hours on a bus today and I'm pretty glad to be back on dry land! Winding mountain passes in a coach that kinda rolls you, & your stomach, around the corners at breakneck speed, is enough to make you feel like you've had a bad day at Thorpe park! Made it down to Sardinia for a few days chillout on the beach. Caught the overnight ferry over from Citavecchia and then a bus down from Olbia to Cala Galone where I am now. The beaches are stunning, but its really quiet. Its pretty nice after Naples though. I've pretty much seen enough old buildings and churches now! Also I caught a bit of a cold since leaving the helpx place so its quite nice to relax for a while n get over it! This place would be pretty cool for a holiday.
