Day 56: May 31 - GERMANY - St Goar, NETHERLANDS - Edam, Amsterdam Accommodation: Inner Amsterdam Hostel, Amsterdam Back on the bus again for who knows how many hours, and early afternoon we stopped just outside Amsterdam at the lovely little town of Edam, surrounded by huge fields of grass, canals and dykes, but not as many windmills and tulips as I'd expected or hoped. We stopped at a little shop almost in the middle of nowhere for a bit of a cheese and clogs demonstration. Walking inside the cheese area absolutely stunk with the odour of mouldy aged cheese so [View Full Entry]

Day 53: May 28 - GERMANY - Munich, LIECHTENSTEIN - Vaduz, SWITZERLAND - Lucerne, Lauterbrunnen Accommodation: Camping Jungfrau, Lauterbrunnen I woke up pretty tired after the night before, no hangover though, but I forgot to pack my bag the night before and had half an hour to shower and shove everything into my backpack. I hate these early morning starts. I later found out that I'd left my best jumper in the hostel room, but I was too tired and in too much of a rush to realise this at the time. Still, we got away on time as usual for [View Full Entry]

Day 52: May 27 - CZECH REPUBLIC - Prague, GERMANY - Dachau, Munich Accommodation: Haus International Hostel, Munich It was time to leave the Czech Republic and visit Germany. We didn't get stopped at the border by passport control this time. It took another 5 or 6 hours or so with a few stops before Tash asked us something important. She said we were coming close to Dachau Concentration Camp but asked if any of us wanted to visit and if anyone did not want to visit the camp as it could be a very emotionally disturbing experience for some people. Day 50: May 25 - AUSTRIA - Vienna, CZECH REPUBLIC - Prague Accommodation: Hotel Patanka, Prague Our time in Austria was at an end, so we all got back on the bus with our bags and we were off again for another day to be spent mostly on the road. I was thankful of the bus driver's mandatory stops every 2 or 3 hours because I certainly needed them today after last night's effort. The most memorable stop was at the Czech Republic border. Travelling over road borders from France to Italy to Austria we drove straight through without much realisation [View Full Entry]

Day 48: May 23 - ITALY - Venice, AUSTRIA - Vienna Accommodation: Hotel Kuntner, Vienna I didn't go hard enough the night before to have a hangover although I heard stories of people who had big nights and threw up or got carried home. Janice spilt her third Attitude Adjuster all over Tash's pants and without wanting to waste her 8 Euros she started licking it off her pants so it looked like something completely dirty rather than the absurd situation it actually was. I only vaguely remember it even though I was sitting at that table at the time. Still, [View Full Entry]

Day 45: May 20 - Corfu, night ferry to Venice Accommodation: Adriatic ferry We had an early night the night before as we all knew we had to get up at (gasp) 4am this morning! Basically the ferry was leaving at 6am and Tash wanted us to be at the bus just before 5am to make sure we didn't miss the ferry back to Italy. It was going to be a very long trip all through the day and night so we had to get there on time or risk missing a whole day. Thanks to the laidback nature of workers [View Full Entry]

Day 41: May 16 - GREECE - Corfu (Kerkyra) Accommodation: Hotel Frini, Corfu Another evil early hour rise this morning as the ferry was getting ready to dock at Corfu. We were told to assemble at the back of the ship around 5:30am and the sun was still rising over the hills we left behind coming into the coast. It was still a really nice view though so with tired eyes I gazed at it and took a few eerie-looking photos. We pulled in just after 6am (I was mumbling to myself that I could've stayed in bed longer) and got [View Full Entry]

Day 36: May 11 - FRANCE - Antibes, ITALY - Pisa, Florence Accommodation: Camping Internazionale, Florence Unfortunately our first stop today was a perfume factory and I had no interest in this whatsoever. I wasn’t going to buy anything, the overwhelming smell and mixture of perfumes and colognes inside didn’t do much for me, and I thought it was a waste of time. However the only other option was to spend an hour sitting in the carpark so I tagged along. The guide explained this and that, took us through a few places, and then surprise surprise we finished up in [View Full Entry]

Day 30 - May 5: ENGLAND - London, Dover, FRANCE - Paris Accommodation: Camping Du Tremblay, Paris So here we were all assembling just before 6am at the Royal National coffee shop. St Paul’s Tube station wasn’t open at 5:30am so I had to get a £6 taxi. Lame. It was cold and too early and 3 or 4 tours were waiting around. The only people not there were the tour managers and drivers, nor were any of the buses, but eventually they all turned up. We weighed our bags (mine was already half a kg over the 20kg limit but [View Full Entry]

Day 29 - May 4: London Accommodation: St Paul’s YHA, London With little agenda and no real major checkout time from my laid back Nottingham hostel, I woke up late with just enough time to get to the bus terminal, although I wasn’t in the mood for walking with my heavy gear again so I scored a taxi. I booked another one of these £1 bus specials to London so I was pretty pleased with myself. After a pleasant bus ride, I arrived at Victoria coach station and caught the Tube back to St Paul station to my YHA. I settled [View Full Entry]
