With only a week left now on my travels i feel the need to relax on a beach and take it easy. So Anne-Sophie and I catch a bus out to Kompong Som to do just that. We had planned to get to Kep, but decided it would involve too long on the bus and not enough time to relax. After arriving and finding a nice small quiet guesthouse we spend the first day with Rod, a guy Anne-Sophie met in Thailand and that we bumped into in Phnom Penh, on a beach just next to Serendipity beach. The following three days were spent doing much the same sitting on the beach in the afternoon and eating some nice big Cambodian prawns on the beach in the evening. We watched Arsenal get beat by Chelsea much ... read more

So after successfully seeing the lads off on their trip we decide after 6 days in the capital of Cambodia of not really doing much, to get out and seesomething. The guesthouse we found to stay in "The Drunken Frog" has a great family and it has been too easy to just spend the days relaxing with them and all the great people we met there. Most of them left on the same day though so we decide to jump on the back of LG and Charlie's bikes to go out to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek and then on to S21 the prison Back in Phnom Pehn We visit the killing fields at Choeung Ek first, by the end of the day I'm glad we did. The photo's and stories at S21 would've made ... read more

So after spending a week on Don Khone, home to the four thousand islands, with Uli, an Austrian couple arrive with my next opportunity for traveling. That's right my own boat to sail down the Mekong on! The 4000 islands quickly first though...... We arrive to find Uli's dream guesthouse and too be honest it turned out to be a great choice. The German band Die Toten Hosen are playing whilst the owner is having his end of year clear out so we each grab one of the riverside huts and spend the next few days relaxing and recovering from our bike ride. Whilst we are there we spend most of our time reading on our balconies, one day going out for a visit to the real 4000 islands with Mike (guesthouse owner) and the rest ... read more

So, Vientiene was not my kind of place but there was a really good motorbike rental company there........................... Jules Classic Rentals. Spent a day or two sorting things out with Uli as we were going to do a 5 day cross country tour of central Laos together. Starting in Vientiane we hired two similar bikes and headed in the direction of the Phu Khoa National park. First day we aim to get to Ban Na Hin, via the Tat Zeuk waterfall, where there is a fantastic lookout ( The Sala) we finally arrived in the late afternoon. After riding on the best road that we will see for our journey, route 13, then onto the 8 en route to the Vietnam border cross at Nam Phao. We turn off long before there though onto the 8b ... read more

Crossing the Meekong river via boat from Chiang Khong (Thailand) to Huoux Xai (Laos) in the morning i spend the day in HX waiting for the night bus to Luang Prabang. I bump into Anne and Uli that i met in the guesthouse in Thailand the night before. We all board the bus and spend the next 12 hrs trying to sleep and mainly failing miserably! We arrive in Luang Prabang the following morning and find the guesthouse that Marc is staying at. After a quick rest we go out to Pak Ou cave via tuk tuk and short boat ride, the caves are interesting and full of minature buddhas and Laos locals on the other side of the river in cafes drinking and singing karaoke. A great way to spend a wednesday afternoon. The following ... read more

It's the day of the kings Birthday when i arrive in Ayuthaya and the town is alive! I think every town in Thailand will be the same though. The streets are closed to traffic and there are food stalls and entertainers everywhere. Some of the streets are lined with makeshift cinemas, there is a Thai boxing ring and so many people. I don't think there is one person at home today everyone is out to celebrate! I spend the evening walking round the streets and taking in the atmosphere. Watch a few kids beat the daylights out of each other in the boxing ring and finally settle down for the night in the early hours. Royal birthdays are celebrated properly here, they really are proud and happy to have a king, three day holidays and a ... read more

So needing to kill some time (waiting for my next appointment) Ad and I spend some time with some scooters visiting some Touristy attractions. A temple here or a cave temple there but i think one in particular will stay in mind. We arrive at the Temple in the middle of nowhere and park up i go for a wander back down the road to have a look at one of the temples which is still under construction leaving Ad to have a look at the finished one. On my way back up the hill i hear the barking of dogs, nothing that strange here, there is hundreds of them roaming the streets. These ones, about 6 of them, are owned by the monks but Ad doesn care hes off and the next thing i see ... read more

So, flying into Phuket airport I'm only about an hour or so away from Phuket town where i plan to find lodgings for a couple of nights, meeting up with Marc and Eva who have been in Thailand for a week or so. We meet up on the second night for a couple of drinks which finally ends at 5am after numerous games of pool leaving me only 3 hrs sleep before my bus to Surat Thani to catch the ferry to Kao Samui. Adam arrived about a week ago and is probably ready to move on? First night in Samui is great fun, we go out to one of the local places to go "The Ice Bar" exactly what it says on the tin, a bar made of ice, walls, bar, Tuk Tuk and seating. ... read more

Early start, up at 7 to jump on the bus back to Jerantut where we find the bus to KL. Only 3 hrs so not too bad. We arrive in the manic town and head straight to the Travel Hub Guest house where Yoan stayed a few weeks earlier. Newly built, free internet, friendly staff and close to China town. We drop off our bags and go for a wander. We soon are surrounded by hundreds of market stalls selling everything from fruit to dvds, handbags, lighters and flips flops all "genuine" of course. The next few days are spent shopping and with Yoan sorting his Indonesian visa out. So that's it, after traveling together for a few weeks, every day a good laugh we head off in our different directions. I head north up to ... read more

Following our easy week spent on the beach we decide to go Rambo style and head for the jungle. With the possibilities of encountering dangerous snakes, "small" big cats and flying squirrels amongst the many other species of wildlife it should be an exciting change. 0345am we are woken by our superb Kota Bahru guest house (ideal travellers guest house) host to taxi us to the train station to catch the Jungle Train to to Jerantut - jumping off point for T.N. We had promised to be awake on time but as Yoan and I were carrying on alone we felt it only right that we share a few beers with Marc. Finally hitting the hay at just before 1am we shouldve known that wed sleep through the alarm! The train departs Kota Bahru at 0415 ... read more
