So, flying into Phuket airport I'm only about an hour or so away from Phuket town where i plan to find lodgings for a couple of nights, meeting up with Marc and Eva who have been in Thailand for a week or so. We meet up on the second night for a couple of drinks which finally ends at 5am after numerous games of pool leaving me only 3 hrs sleep before my bus to Surat Thani to catch the ferry to Kao Samui. Adam arrived about a week ago and is probably ready to move on? First night in Samui [View Full Entry]

Early start, up at 7 to jump on the bus back to Jerantut where we find the bus to KL. Only 3 hrs so not too bad. We arrive in the manic town and head straight to the Travel Hub Guest house where Yoan stayed a few weeks earlier. Newly built, free internet, friendly staff and close to China town. We drop off our bags and go for a wander. We soon are surrounded by hundreds of market stalls selling everything from fruit to dvds, handbags, lighters and flips flops all "genuine" of course. The next few days are spent shopping [View Full Entry]

Following our easy week spent on the beach we decide to go Rambo style and head for the jungle. With the possibilities of encountering dangerous snakes, "small" big cats and flying squirrels amongst the many other species of wildlife it should be an exciting change. 0345am we are woken by our superb Kota Bahru guest house (ideal travellers guest house) host to taxi us to the train station to catch the Jungle Train to to Jerantut - jumping off point for T.N. We had promised to be awake on time but as Yoan and I were carrying on alone we felt [View Full Entry]

From Bogor I catch the bus to Jakarta airport. Arriving at 5pm I'm 5 hours early for my flight and can't check in for another 2 so i just kick back at the airport reading and waiting. For someone who never read much at home I'm doing well out here. So far 6 books in 3 months. I have no money left apart from my departure tax of 150,000rp so when i get to check in to find out that my visa expired yesterday due to Jetstar in Australia messing up the day for my flight to leave Indonesia. I have [View Full Entry]

Arriving in Cianjur i receive a warm welcome from my host and his family. Yudi, Gita and daughter Louise. He has a lovely home complete with a comfy double bed for me, a proper toilet that flushes and has paper ( a real luxury) and to top it off a hot shower with pressure!!! Along with three meals a day this is a true bargain at just 8 pound a night. Yudi then warns me about the mosque across the road waking me at 3am. During Ramadan the Muslim people wake early to eat & pray before sunrise. I tell him [View Full Entry]

Arriving back on Bali we head out to Tampaksiring for our week of work at the Senang Hati foundation. Senang Hati is a center in Bali who for the past 6 years has been taking in people from across Bali with disabilities to give them a better life. Balinese Hindus believe that those who bear a disabled child must've done something wrong in a previous life and are being punished. Karma. It is for this reason that they find disability something to be ashamed of and therefore hide their children away from society. Some people before coming here had lived most [View Full Entry]

After an afternoon and night in Ubud with some western food, a massage, a nice comfortable bed and a few drinks in the evening meeting up with Felix and Rudi we were on our way again. Off to Java via bus - ferry - bus. The bus in Bali - fine - a bemo so we knew what we were getting. The ferry, also fine. Only a quick channel hop so only on it for an hour or so. The bus to Probolinggo. A different story. I think we were on it it for a total of 7 hours, no air [View Full Entry]

Bali to Lombok Asia » Indonesia » Bali » Sanur
Where do i start? The beginning? It's so hectic here you forget where you are sometimes! Or at least our driver did! We fly into Bali in the evening and not really wanting to get here and find accommodation, transport etc etc we had it all prebooked. Arrive to the driver holding a sign. Mr Whidrab. That's another name for the list. He led us to the car to take us to Sanur for our lodgings for the next couple of days. Put the key in to unlock it but it wouldn't unlock? After trying the rest of the doors he [View Full Entry]

A local just taking it easy by the Ocean.

So after getting rested in Alice for a day i meet a Belgian lad who is driving through Kakadu with a Dutch girl and decide to jump in with them. So loading up Steve's station wagon we head off along the road surrounded by pretty much nothing apart from the odd car or road train. Heading for Tennants creek campsite we stop off at a giant iron aboriginal lady and to look at the devils marbles rock formation on the way to Bitter springs & Mataranka thermal Pools. The next day we get to the thermal pools in the afternoon, I [View Full Entry]

After a couple of days spent in Darwin during the Darwin festival we had seen what we wanted to see, done what we had to do and were ready for anther road trip. By this time Chantal had decided to join me for Indonesia and we were due to fly out on the Wednesday late after so booked a car hire to get out to see Litchfield. Home to hikes, waterfalls and termites. First stop of the day would be Woolworth's for some food, although we had planned to this with Steve who had camping gear, a stove and pots and [View Full Entry]
