Teacher of the year awards Hi Sarah,
My wife and I were with VSO in Basse two years ago. We worked with Kinteh, Jallow and remember the place well.
We actually set up the first Teacher of the year awards and received an award for it and our contribution to RED6.
It was good to see the awards still going and amusing to see that the minister has not changed. She has improved somewhat last year I believe she spoke for two hours.
I wonder if you are still in the office we set up as a model classroom, extreme left of the admin block.
I would love to know who won the awards this year as we met almost every teacher in RED6
Anyway thanks for your blog it was fun to read.
Very best regards
please say hi to Claudiana and Kinteh etc for us.
Lynn & Tom Wilson
Hi Sarah remember me ???
Keep up the good work, you sound as though you are having an amazing experience, better than the humdrum life of English schools !!!!
I love to read your blog, it makes you appreciate all we have,, but there's a huge difference - there is so much happiness amongst those people who have very little in the way of material things.
Keep up the good work and keep writing
Much love
Geraldine
Well done It all sounds terribly frustrating so well done for your persistance. Glad to hear about you sewing, does that include any embroidery? Keep up the good work, it certainly seems as though you are needed and are making a difference xx
Certainly does include embroidery! My little table cloth is coming along nicely! I'll be wearing furry slippers, getting a perm and shopping at the Edinburgh Woolen Mill anytime now!
Thank you Oh Sarah, I feel famous! You are always "most welcome" at my Pink Palace, even though you now have your own very pretty mini version.
See you soon. xxx
Back to Basse Great entry Sarah. Gives a real feel for the place and the time of year. Best of luck with the workshops. Your project steps forward into a new phase. Sock it to them.
xx
The Look Book I think a book about looking could be quite exciting :-) Seems like you have really settled into the local way of life... can't wait to try your new cooking recipes!!
Happy belated New Year Your blog is great and glad you had a proper Christmas. Adam's family came to our home and it was great. Congrats on the run...was it as hard as Everest????? I always think of you and am so proud of your accomplishments! Lots of love and hope to see you soon, Kim
Christmas catch up Happy New Year Chick. I spent new year on my own too. Your dad looks like he really enjoyed the dancing! You look buggered after the run but well done you. Love to you from me and Jon.xxxxxxxxxx
Best Holiday without a doubt!!!!! I've had the most wonderful holiday with you and loved every minute of it. I'll never forget the adventures we had. The highlight was meeting your family in Basse, their wonderful smiles, the laughter, the food, their kindness and especially the children when they got their gifts it was just magic. Your photos are amazing and the ones on facebook are fantastic- well done.
It's amazing what you can do with a kneedle and thread and a Swiss army knife.... Love the material, very vintage. Is it all done by hand or do you have a machine?
I'm off to The Gambia with the VSO to be a Cluster Primary Teacher Trainer, (or is it a Primary Cluster Teacher Trainer, I can never remember.) I'll be based in Basse Santa Su, the most up river town in The Gambia meaning it's out in the sticks. I'll be staying on a compound with a local family where I'll have intermittent electricity and water and, I've been told, will experience the true Gambian way of life away from the tourists on the coast. Armed with a motorbike, a basic supply of stationary and a 20 pack of laminating sheets I've been tasked with the job of organising workshops and trai... full info
