It appears to be going well then! So good to know that you are enjoying yourself in the Gambia! What better way to discover how the other half lives and how they do so with joy and dignity (except for toilet arrangements!). Missionaries who entered these countries many many years ago stepped out in faith and with great a desire to do good - just like yourself. They did a great job and we are sure you will too. A sense of humour helps when the going gets tough - keep that in mind and .....good look with those language skills. They could cause a bit of mirth. Love and good wishes from Tom and Maureen.
Hi Sarah How do you say absolutly fabulous blog in Maninkan? Think it might be wise to wear your crash helmet for the language lessons, your teacher sounds nearly as strict as Joe! xx
holiday in the sun Just finished booking the flight and hotel. Can't wait to see you! This entry is NOT selling the holiday mind. Do I have to practise the bucket bath technique?
Thanks for the message. If you press subscribe on the front page of the blog it'll send you an email every time I write something. Maybe you could show it to Gran and Granda too. I gave Gran a quick lesson before I came out but she may need a refresher course!

Sorry it\'s taken ages but I\'ve had difficulty leaving messages, it won\'t let me leave a private message so everyone will just have to know that I\'m curious to know how your hunt for Mr Darcy is coming along? It all sounds brilliant and I wish I was there with you (apart from the unfortunate nose picking incident, bet he\'s not in the running then?) I think I\'ve guessed how the ecconomy works, it\'s called fleece the vollunteer, I only hope the sheets were at least 800 thread count and feel like silk.
Thinking of you loads and bragging about you to all our friends
lots of love and big hugs
Mary xx
PS looking forward to a gorgeous sunday lunch (sorry!)
Language lessons Sarah, love the story so far - especially the boy on the plane sitting randomly on your lap. Your photos are great, and it sounds like you are really busy. How are the language lessons going????
Pictures! Pictures please Sarah! Photos would be great, a sketch would do... sounds like it is all good so far, hope you are enjoying the language training. xxx
Wow Great to hear from you in a form of communication that's not stilted. The phone calls have been peculiar with lots of gaps and stutters. I feel very reassured reading this. My little heart has missed a few beats lately thinking about you.

I'm off to The Gambia with the VSO to be a Cluster Primary Teacher Trainer, (or is it a Primary Cluster Teacher Trainer, I can never remember.) I'll be based in Basse Santa Su, the most up river town in The Gambia meaning it's out in the sticks. I'll be staying on a compound with a local family where I'll have intermittent electricity and water and, I've been told, will experience the true Gambian way of life away from the tourists on the coast. Armed with a motorbike, a basic supply of stationary and a 20 pack of laminating sheets I've been tasked with the job of organising workshops and trai... full info

Well Joan of Arc was burned and Helen of Troy was hanged. Your take care Sarah of Basse, some of those pot holes might be deep!
